Here’s a pub with warmth and personality, where the main bar welcomes all-comers with signature teal blue tiles, exposed beams, comfy tweed upholstery and a sideboard full of games. Sit in the generous bay windows overlooking Witney’s comings and goings, or find a corner for morning coffee or a dish from the Mediterranean-inspired menu – bruschettas, brunches, steaks, build your own pizzas or salads, plenty of gluten-free or veggie options. Behind a red velvet curtain is a more formal dining room, with vibrant pops of colour; beyond is a more rustic pizzeria with wood fired oven. The Blue Boar is now part of an award-winning group, but still retains a community pub vibe – they sponsor local events, the Witney rugby club and hold garden parties in the neatly kept courtyard garden in summer. For staying over, no two rooms are alike. Ask for a room over the lively square (triple glazing provided!) or a dog friendly ground floor annexe room. You may find oak leaf and acorn wallpaper, smoky blues and pale yellows, quirky headboards made from old doors; all rooms have lovely Witney blanket throws.
