Come to a peaceful working farm and family home at the edge of the Cotswolds. Meet the resident horses, chickens, cats and dog or swim with dragonflies in the natural swimming pond – there’s a beautiful, airy barn hosting regular Pilates and yoga classes that you are welcome to join too.

From the apartment you have views of the pond and fields beyond. Friendly Kate and Ben live across the courtyard and will leave you with home-laid eggs and plenty of logs for the wood-burner; they’re generous and accommodating but will leave you in peace. If you’d like to stay as a party of eight the Bothy can be rented together with Little Barn.

Stroll over fields to the Royal Oak gastropub in Ramsden in about 20 minutes. The historic market town of Witney, which has shops, restaurants and supermarkets, is a ten-minute drive away or you can reach Oxford in three quarters of an hour.

We picked this place for its beautiful setting and were not disappointed. The barn has been painstakingly and lovingly turned into a home from home - equipped with everything you might need for cosy evenings in and high chair and cot were helpful for those travelling with little ones. The swimming pond looked extremely inviting (we plan on making full use of this on our next visit) and Baby George loved feeding the horses and smelling the flowers. Saturday morning yoga with Sara in the barn next door was the perfect final addition to a wonderfully restorative few days away.

The neighbourhood

You're a few miles from Witney, with the Cotswolds on your doorstep. Hire a bicycle and explore pretty villages nearby, such as medieval Burford and the village of Swinbrook. The Cotswold Way can be joined for hearty walks and there are two excellent restaurants in nearby Kingham, a half-hour's drive: The Wild Rabbit and the Plough. Oxford is about 15 miles. For provisions: 2 miles to Waitrose, 20 minutes’ walk to the local Spar.

Local points of interest from Kate & Ben Brown

  • Walk straight out of the barn, down quiet roads and bridleways or head a mile and a half to Ramsden and dine at the classic village pub, The Royal Oak.
  • The historical city of Oxford - home to the Ashmolean, the Botanical Gardens, the Sheldonian and the city's beautiful Colleges - is only 12 miles away.
  • Other interesting sites include the fabulous Blenheim Palace (World Heritage Site) just 10 miles away and go west to Stratford if you're a Shakespeare fan.
  • On the farm Ben and Kate have concentrated on rearing rare breed livestock. They currently have Shorthorn and British White beef, Lleyn sheep and Berkshire pigs.
  • The farm is located in the Cotswolds and accessible to a plethora of beautiful villages, stunning countryside, as well as some top class restaurants and pubs, such as the Wild Rabbit and The Plough in Kingham.
  • Ben has recently finished building a natural swimming pond on the farm which is as near to Wild Swimming as it gets. Swim with the dragon flies and swallows swooping down on the water! Some of our braver guests bring wet suits during the cooler months.

Kate & Ben Brown

Ben and Kate have renovated the barns and outbuildings of their farm without losing their traditional charm. They farm Shorthorn cattle and Berkshire pigs and also have sheep, horses, chickens and cats. You’re likely to meet Hilda – an exuberant boxer who loves children.
