The Experience

This Grade II-listed Georgian house with Arts and Crafts additions sits in a smart terrace. The walled town garden behind is a surprise – a third of an acre with hedged arch, scented roses, ornamental pond and vine-covered pergola. Everyone who arrives at Witney House loves it. A short stroll away is the river Windrush – walk over water meadows to Minster Lovell in an hour and a half, stopping at the odd pub on the way.

The suite is a romantic affair in white, and all three bedrooms have comfortable seats for flopping. Breakfast is full of all things local and served at separate tables – you can invite family or friends to join in if you want. Cosy up round the log fire in the dining room with an interesting book, sink into the sofas in the garden room with a cup of tea.

Browse the antique shops, and if you’re mad about bears hop into Teddy Bears of Witney – 1,000s to see, including Aloysius from Brideshead Revisited.

Introducing

Chris & Helen Cook

Chris, building surveyor, and Helen, ex-banking trading room manager, both have a passion for travel. They're generous hosts who want to share their beautifully restored home with guests and look after them with great warmth. Dogs Monty and Hugo tend to keep to Chris and Helen's part of the house as they're excitable, but they'll happily come out for a pat if you'd like them to.
