An extravaganza created with a twinkle in the eye. You'll love the imaginative, luxurious eccentricity of it all. There is – why not? – a clock from a Russian submarine in the bathroom, with a pig diving into the village pond above the bath. And an array of bathrobes, umbrellas, kitchen equipment, and speakers set into ceilings; press a button on the wall of the sitting room and the sound floods in. The space is both immaculate and generous: a long, light hall and huge sitting/dining room with a terrific fireplace (all the logs you need) and a sculpture above it. The fabrics on the chairs and great sofa are colourful and rich, the kitchen is of pine and polished granite and the views are a glory. (Note the welcome pack – as big as a Harrods' hamper.) Sleep deeply in a bedroom furnished with patterned fabric wallpaper – like a Turkish carpet! The bath sparkles, the shower is gargantuan. Behind this romantic bolthole are 200 acres of wilderness and wildlife, with a log path built into the hillside to make the walk flawless. Charming Roger has thought of everything, and the peace reigns supreme.

"This was our eighteenth annual visit to the wonderful Dick Turpin Cottage. It is the most glorious retreat from the noise and troubles of everyday life, and being there is both relaxing and restorative. Everything is designed for guests' comfort with luxurious and unique touches throughout, Food items greet guests on arrival, along with fresh flowers and plants. The cottage is immaculately presented and additional items regularly added where appropriate. The fact that our round journey of almost 600 sometime difficult miles does not deter us speaks more eloquently than this recommendation!"

"My husband and I spent 6 nights at the Dick Turpin Cottage in January 2015. I cannot say enough to praise it...... so instead, I'm going to go as far to say, this: clearly, I cannot know what you as a holidaymaker, considering going to stay at the Dick Turpin Cottage might be - interested in, worried about, or looking for......but I don't need to know - because everything is catered for. Your hosts are the most thoughtful you're likely to come across, the location stunning and the cottage fit for all the superlatives in the english language that my little brain can muster. Go! "
