The
Experience

With its own spring water, horses, dogs and slow pace this Georgian rectory is comfortable country living at its best. Izzy and Andy are charming and interesting and give you scones and tea by the fire in a drawing room full of family photos, plump sofas and books. Elegant bedrooms have fluffy hot water bottles; smart bathrooms have scented lotions in pretty bottles, robes and slippers. Candlelit dinner will often be fish or game with garden vegetables; breakfast is local and leisurely with homemade granola and jams. There’s a bootroom for muddy feet and paws, stabling and seven acres to roam.

Reviews

Warm welcome and offered tea on arrival. A wonderfully comfortable bedroom and delicious breakfast. Izzy's attention to detail is to be admired. If we were in the area this would be the only house we would stay in.

Heaven on earth! This was our second visit to the Old Rectory, still our favorite bnb in all of England. Izzy and Andy are bright, warm, wonderful people who offer every comfort you could wish for. Their home and gardens are superb, and the surrounding countryside is lovely. Breakfast plentiful and delicious in elegant but down to earth ambience. No pretensions here, just the best and most tasteful country living. When I sit down in the dentist's chair, I close my eyes and pretend I am back at the Old Rectory.

A fantastic place to stay. A very warm welcome from Izzy & Andy with tea & cake on arrival. The bedroom was just beautiful with lovely views, & the breakfast truly delicious. We always choose Alastair Sawday, and they are always good, however this has to be the best one we've stayed in which says it all. breakfast &

Local points of interest from Isabel Barnard

  • Step out from the house straight into the beautiful Shropshire hills - not as well known as other walking spots so fewer people!
  • This part of Shropshire is full of history - from the Wars of the Roses to the Tudors - a lot of it happened here - so there's plenty to explore in the way of important castles and houses.
  • Ludlow - a very pretty medieval, market town famous for it's unspoilt architecture and its food is only 15 minutes away. Good shopping too.
