The Experience

You’re tucked away down a lane – this 500-year old house is in a bucolic setting with chickens ambling over the lawn. Debbie and Craig are dab hands at making you feel at home and are happy to chat and tell you all about the surroundings. The guest bedrooms are off in a private part of the house; two have their own sitting rooms and the romantic Aragon Suite has a splendid four-poster.

Aga breakfasts include seasonal berries from the garden, home-pressed apple juice, homemade potato scones and muffins with local bacon and sausages – and those free-ranging chooks lay the deepest yellow eggs.  Supper plates can be ordered too – village butcher ham and chicken liver pate or smoked salmon and veggy options – or a light, early supper of Craig’s homemade vegetable and lentil soup.

Gloriously cosy, characterful and ancient house with magnificent beams and floor boards. sumptuous breakfasts and enormous room with super-comfortable bed and living room with lots of extras. Kind and generous hosts and a real sense of peace.

Neil, Manchester

Just had a very lovely stay at Walford Court. Beautiful rooms, well-equipped, great breakfasts and in a locality where we could walk on the Welsh-Shropshire borders every day. Thanks very much much to Craig & Debbie. Chris

Christine, Buntingford

A superb place to escape to from the hurly burly of city life. A truly ancient house set in peaceful surroundings and surrounded by glorious countryside to all points of the compass. And you will be thoroughly spoilt here, the breakfasts are legendary and the attention to detail in the rooms second to none. One of the best rural hideaways in the Borders and beyond.

Stayed in Aragon Suite for two nights. Can't sing its praises highly enough. Very atmospheric with exposed wooden beams, extremely comfortable four poster bed, well and appropriately furnished separate sitting room with variety of teas and coffee on tap. Hosts Debbie and Craig have thought of all the little extras, even the muffin tin seems to replenish itself. Breakfasts superb and rendered lunch unnecessary. Simply a must if you are staying in this area.

Splendid place to stay. Beautiful location and a great welcome by Debbie and Craig. Very comfortable bed and room, lovely breakfast with much homegrown and homemade produce. A real treat. Would highly recommend. So refreshing to stay somewhere with so much character and taste, and to which so much thought had evidently been given. Worth every penny and more.

Jonathan, London

Once again this time we stayed in the Courthouse Suite which has separate lounge, bedroom and bathroom. It is very spacious and very comfortable. Debbie & Craig are superb hosts and the food they serve is first class both in terms of choice and taste. For breakfast there is a wide choice of cereals, toast, jams and a mouth watering array of hot choices. Once again on arrival we had Debbie's supper platter which consist of local pate, ham, and cheese with homemade pickles and bread and a choice of crisps and crackers and of course her home made muffins. This is an absolute must! The property is

This is our third visit this summer and as always it was absolutely fabulous. Debbie & Craig always make us feel so welcome and nothing is too much trouble for them. Stayed in the Courthouse Suite which we find excellent.. We had the opportunity to have a home-cooked meal this time, it was superb; the Herefordshire beef was so tender and the vegetables were so fresh they were almost still growing on the plate., followed by delicious home baked apple crumble and ice cream. We took the opportunity to spend a quiet day on site this time and it was idyllic.

Brian

We would highly recommend staying at Walford Court, Debbie and Craig are very warm, friendly hosts and they make you feel very much at home. Our suite was very comfortable with all our needs catered for. Our pre-booked, evening meal was excellent as were the breakfasts we had each morning (including eggs from Debbie's girls!). If visiting the area again we will definitely stay at Walford Court.

Patricia

This is one , if not the best place we have ever stayed, if you want peace and quiet, no hassles or worries then book up , you will not be disappointed All the rooms are beautiful with space to swing more than a cat ! Roll top baths, wonderfull beds, robes, spotlessly clean, fantastic food, be pamperedand relax with Craig,Debbie and the chickens at Walford court.

Graham

Just spent a lovely weekend at Walford Court - a very romantic B&B near Ludlow. Highly recommended if you want some great food, comfy beds, romantic atmosphere, wood burning stoves and very friendly and warm hosts in Debbie and Craig! The breakfast is fantastic - varied and made with fresh ingredients. We were treated to home-made lemon curd and freshly baked bread on top of a fine range of cooked options. Make sure you try the Blue Cheese tatty scones for breakfast and treat yourself to a home-cooked meal when you get there (phone up in advance or ask on booking). We will be back!

Nigel

Very relaxing stay with such hospitable people in a lovely old house. Lots of room in our suite for a stay of four days in dreadful weather. Would definitely recommend both the area and this B&B, with comforting home-cooked evening meals too!

Location

The neighbourhood

Walford Court is in a hamlet on the border of Shropshire, Herefordshire and Wales. Leintwardine is a three-minute drive - a small village on the river Teme with two restaurants, the Sun Inn, a church and a school. Ludlow is eight miles away - a beautiful Georgian town on top of a hill with medieval castle, great food shops, markets and the famous Feathers Hotel. You can reach Hay-on-Wye in under an hour.

Local points of interest from Debbie & Craig Fraser

  • Cross the little wooden bridge over the stream and take in the stunning views by walking through our orchard, fields and forest.
  • Visit historic Ludlow with its famous castle, market square and fine dining.
  • Take a glass of local ale in the Sun Inn, a famous listed parlour pub located in nearby historic roman village of Leintwardine
  • Enjoy the many National Trust properties located in this unspoilt area.
  • Immerse yourself in Tudor history. The house is over 500 years old, and has a medieval freeze celebrating the marriage of Catherine of Aragon and Prince Arthur.
  • Stand on our ancient motte, once a neolithic burial mound, where Walford Castle stood in the 11th century.

Introducing

Debbie & Craig Fraser

Debbie and Craig have been happily running their B&B for over 12 years. They're brilliant hosts - very welcoming and easy to be with; Craig has a wry Scottish sense of humour and a twinkle in his eye. Oliver the old Labrador tends to quietly snooze in their part of the house.
