The Experience

A relaxed home with no rules; arrive to tasty cake and tea or a tipple, settle in the sitting room by one of the wood-burners, chat in the kitchen, wander mown paths in the garden. The sunny open-plan kitchen/living room is the heart of the house; Becky is a keen cook so food is good, local, homemade; Crumpet, one of the terriers, snoozes by the Aga. Quiet, comfy bedrooms have tip-top linen, painted furniture, pots of flowers, garden views; the larger twin has a sofa by tall windows. Next door the Cider Mill has a farm shop, museum and tea rooms, the walks are great, the Jurassic coast is a short drive. A friendly place, a treat to stay.

A great find, one of the nicest Sawday's stays we have had. Becky works so very hard to ensure your stay is as relaxed and as comfortable as possible. The rooms are light and airy with a large comfortable bed and quality bed linen. The lounge, just for guests, is great for relaxing after a long day out The breakfasts are tailored to your tastes as each item is cooked fresh for you. Becky has an encyclopaedic knowledge of the area, attractions, gardens, shops and eateries. We followed her advice and were not disappointed. If you like homemade marmalade, this is the place for you.

David, Holsworthy

Huge thanks to Becky for a fantastic stay. We had a warm welcome with tea and cake beside the fire, a really comfortable stay with views across the garden and neighbouring orchard from the bedroom and an absolutely delicious breakfast. Becky was also really responsive and helpful with local recommendations. We would not hesitate to recommend a stay at Brook House.

Charlotte, Uckfield

I can only echo every other piece of praise in the reviews below - this is just a superb place to stay, with delicious food, a comfortable bed in a lovely room, beautiful garden, a pretty village, and such a lovely host. The only thing wrong was that we were only staying for one night at the start of our holiday in Devon, but we will be back and will stay longer.

Penny, Bookham

What a real gem - a fantastic cottage - tranquil, beautiful, tasteful and immaculately clean. Becky goes the extra mile to make you feel at home and relaxed. We don’t normally go to the same place twice, but wouldn’t hesitate to visit again.

Claire, Poole

We had a fabulous four day visit to Brook House, a beautiful house set in quiet and lovely countryside. Becky was very friendly and helpful and cooked two great vegetarian dinners for us. She could not have been a better host and we look forward to returning. One of the best Sawday's we have stayed in.

Goldie, Leigh-on-Sea

A welcoming surprise awaits you from the scones on arrival to the lovely dinner on the patio (weather permitting)or in the homely kitchen/diner. Comfortable and well appointed rooms, superb breakfast together with charming host Becky ensures your stay in this lovely Somerset village will be relaxing and memorable.

Arthur, Midhurst

We had the most relaxing stay at Brook House. Becky welcomed us with tea and scones, which we enjoyed in her stunning garden. Dinner on Friday night was amazing, all homemade, with fresh ingredients and beautifully presented. She was very flexible regarding meal times - which was a plus as we had our little baby with us! Our room was very spacious and with beautiful views of the garden and cider orchard...dreamy. We will be back!

Agnes, Bristol

Absolutely the most wonderful place to stay. So quiet, so clean and so welcoming. Becky is the most wonderful hostess. From the reception committee at the gate (the dogs!) to the chocolate brownie with our cup of tea. The beautiful garden and the floor to ceiling windows from our room to soak up the view. Absolutely perfect in every way. Next door to a cider brewery is a plus along with excellent pubs and walks. A night just is not enough. Probably the loveliest place we have ever had the privilege to stay at.

Alex, London

After a 5 hour drive from the NE the welcome we received on arrival from Becky was typical of our stay with tea and cake supplied in the garden. Our double aspect bedroom had a picture window overlooking the garden.Downstairs was our sitting room.We were able to sit in either the garden or that room, ideal for pre dinner drinks.During our 7 day stayBecky cooked outstanding 3 course meals each night, any restaurant would have been proud to serve, no course was repeated during the period. The warm and friendly environment gave all the benefits of a cottage without the hassle of catering.Idyllic.

Terry, Darlington

Well-nigh perfect accommodation and hospitality. On my arrival after a long drive, there was a bottle of wine and a glass waiting for me in the beautiful living room, with a roaring log-burner as well. Becky is the perfect hostess - attentive and welcoming, and happy to talk or leave you in peace as you prefer. The whole house is stunning and spotless, and the bed was one of the most comfortable I've slept in. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious. I couldn't fault anything.

Philip, Hartford

Our host, Becky, was an absolute delight. She went above and beyond our expectations as a host. The accommodations were fantastic and the view of the countryside from our room was beautiful. The village of Dowlish Wake was very charming and with the Perry Cider Works steps away and the New Inn pub right down the lane for good food and beverages a real plus. If you are there the first Sunday of the month, go to The New Inn for quiz night, so much fun!

Effervescent warm welcome Home from home Welcome with the doggies after a long journey to a peaceful haven. Location Four Weddings and a Funeral with Perry’s cider orchard, cafe and shop. Beautiful house, quality linen and farmhouse breakfast. A very warm welcome here from Becky and her four legged friends in this picturesque and quiet village in Somerset countryside. A lovely eco friendly sensitively restored old farmhouse with a modern interior. Comfortable guest room and spacious guest sitting room offering TV free relaxation.

Jenny, Tenbury Wells

Brilliant host ! Excellent accommodation in this quiet and beautiful village. Difficult to improve

Chris, Malpas

We were so fortunate to stay here at this special, beautiful, peaceful B&B. Becky really looked after us so well; starting from tea and delicious homemade biscuits on the patio on the edge of her garden, which is fabulous, so this was a treat. Our bedroom was spacious, with a large comfortable bed, immaculately clean together with a super bathroom, large, fluffy towels and gorgeous toiletries. Becky catered for our vegetarian diet with a tasty, fresh breakfast... we felt incredibly spoiled and really didn’t want to leave... so we shall just have to come back as soon as possible!

Jan & Paul, Stonehouse

My sister and I had 3 nights at Brook House: a lovely stay in every way. We had an excellent room each and enjoyed sitting in Becky's beautiful garden. First-class hospitality from Becky. Jam included cream tea on arrival. For nature lovers like ourselves, this was an ideal holiday base: a quiet, peaceful village within easy reach of delightful gardens such as Forde Abbey and Cricket St Thomas. Highly recommended for adults wanting a restful break.

Elspeth, Swindon & Dorset

Brook House has everything you need for a comfortable stay with two fabulous en-suite bedrooms and amazing breakfasts cooked by the wonderful Becky. There’s a guests sitting room and stunning gardens to relax in. Brook House is the perfect haven, tucked away in the most picturesque village but accessible to the best of Somerset, Dorset and Devon. I’ve become quite evangelical about it ... though really want to keep this treasure to myself!

Lillie, Stewkley

We had the most lovely stay with Becky. She was a kind and generous host allowing us to come and go as we needed on our first babysitting experience with our baby grand daughter! We had a delicious breakfast served to us with a lovely view of the garden. We would highly recommend it.... visit immediately!

Ali, Totnes

Becky is a very welcoming and friendly host. On arrival we had lovely homemade biscuits and tea. The house is beautifully styled and furnished. Sleep quality excellent followed by a freshly cooked breakfast - homemade bread and granola were particularly good. Highly recommend.
