The
Experience

High in the Mendips, Ros and Barry’s 15th-century longhouse is blissfully rural, yet Bristol, Bath and Wells are close. Their wonderful house glows: rugs and flagstones, books, burnished beams, paintings and fine old furniture. Guests have a cosy sitting room and bedrooms are charming; you’ll need to be nimble to negotiate ancient steps and stairs. For those who prefer a bit more privacy there’s a lovely family room in a separate green oak barn – stunningly converted and with views over the enchanting garden. Wake for a locally sourced breakfast round a big table. A friendly, relaxed and special place.

Reviews

What a place! We just wanted somewhere to stay for one night, so, as usual, looked up Alastair Sawday's site. As usual, we weren't disappointed. Absolutely gorgeous Garden Room with a sofa, little kitchen, beautiful bathroom. Ros and Barry were wonderful hosts and the breakfast was delicious. They recommended the Plume of Feathers for dinner. The meal was wonderful as were the staff. I wouldn't hesitate to stay at Burrington Farm again.

This is a wonderful place to stay! A beautiful house, full of character, in a beautiful part of the country. Ros was not around when we stayed, but Barry was a fantastic host; he was very friendly and went out of his way to make our stay a good one. He gave us great advice about places to go to eat in the evenings and provided us with lots of ideas about things to do during the day. We will certainly be planning a repeat visit and would whole-heartedly recommend Burrington Farm.

Kate, Oxford

We loved everything about it.
