Such a charming getaway, full of quirky style. Not long ago, a semi-derelict worker’s cottage; now a snug retreat, with sunny terrace and interiors designed by rugged ex-rocker JJ. Step straight in through the glass front door to a gorgeous open plan living space with flagstone floor and wood-burner, always laid ready to light. The kitchen corner has solid slate tops and all you need to cook well – lots of useful basics, plus milk, bread, coffee and eggs are left for you. Only a tiny fridge, but any overspill can go in a larger one in the summerhouse; guests can use the hosts’ washing machine too. Also downstairs is a walk in wet room with brickwork floor and splendid thunder box loo. It’s up steepish stairs to the mezzanine bedroom, with patchwork quilt on the big bed and a Buddha sitting happily on a windowsill. A huge deep bath stands in the corner, there are hooks and hangers instead of a wardrobe. Dogs will be in heaven – there’s hot and cold running water outside for muddy paws. It’s all rather lovely – and you may get to join in with bohemian Lucinda and JJ, testing the output from their cider orchard.
