The Experience

The old part of Nunney village, with its small pretty streets, has a shop, a café and Rosie’s gorgeous old stone millhouse down in the river valley. Penny’s Mill produced flour for the village and surrounding area for a couple of centuries, until it fell into decline in the 1930s. You are greeted warmly with tea and biscuits at a large wooden table in the kitchen, or in the drawing room upstairs with family photos, paintings and a big window looking over the millpond.

Sunny bedrooms painted in gentle blues and greens have a mix of antique and modern furniture; bathrooms have Molton Brown soaps and white fluffy towels. Rosie’s fine breakfasts are served at a communal table with home baked bread and homemade jams and marmalade, plus full English.

You’re welcome to sit in the garden on warmer days – a little brook runs through it, past the walled vegetable garden and you’ll find a waterfall to sit beside and contemplate the quiet.

Reviews

A truly beautiful place to stay. The house is so comfortable and we felt right at home in our spacious bedroom and adjoining sitting room. Rosie and Bill are superb hosts with a gift for putting their guests at ease and seamlessly attending to every need (walking recommendations, dinner reservations, and Rosie's over the top breakfasts). Thank you for your gracious hospitality and sparkling wit.

Penny's Mill is a beautiful B&B in the charming village of Nunney. The setting is so quiet and the sound of the brook that runs through the grounds is so relaxing. Rosie's breakfasts are delicious and served in the most dreamy conservatory overlooking the brook. Nunney's Castle is within walking distance and Frome and Bath are a short drive away. The best location to explore the area!

Tucked up besides the gentle flowing river, Penny’s Mill was a lovely place to relax and unwind. A perfect little getaway with the old water cascade from the mill, space to sit and enjoy your own privacy and enjoy the tranquil surroundings. Nunney, the small village about a 3 minute walk is an adorable little English village with a castle at its centre.

This B&B is a must if you are in the area. Rosie and Bill are fabulous hosts, our room was wonderful, the food second to none and nothing was too much trouble. Have already booked for another visit.

Louise

Rosie and Bill made us feel very much at home in a very comfortable place. Rosie's cooking is wonderful, both at breakfast, but also for the evening meal for which we had booked. Bill's design flair shows in the bedrooms, which are very comfortable. Penny's Mill is up a narrow road in the small village of Nunney.

David

Truly excellent. Rosie's meals were fabulous, hospitality as though we were old friends, bedroom v comfortable with adjoining sitting room. Penny's Mill should not be missed - we shall certainly return - if only to share Bill's excellent wine!

An excellent B&B option in the Frome area for a young family. My wife, two girls (aged 4 and 2), and I spent the night at Penny's Mill after an action-packed day at Longleat Safari Park. The 'family suite' arrangement on the top floor, which includes 2 bedrooms and a living area plus bathroom, was ideal for us. The food was as good as it gets, with Rosie's expert cooking skills, including wonderful home-made bread (we had dinner also). From our bedroom we were serenaded with the therapeutic sounds of birdsong and the running stream that flows through the garden. Our hosts were very welcoming.

We wanted a "Special place to stay" as our son and daughter in law were over from USA. Penny's Mill was perfect. From the beauty of the bedrooms to the warm hospitality of Rosie and Bill. We were treated like special friends. Definetly will be returning as soon as possible.

Susanna

"Fantastic" is how I would describe our stay at Pennys Mill. We were greeted with a pot of tea and slices of homemade cake in front of a cosy log fire. The room was immaculate. further teats awaited us in the evening when we tucked into a delicious meal. I have no problem is recommending this B & B. Anne and Tim Banks

The neighbourhood

You can walk to a good village shop and a pub. Explore the ruined medieval castle and moat, walk along Nunney Brook. Frome is a short drive and has lots of listed buildings, a great market and independent shops and restaurants.

Local points of interest from Rosie Davies

  • Our two top floor bedrooms can be combined into the "Family Suite" with shared sitting room and shower – plenty of space and ideal for families, friends travelling together or even an overflow when your Nunney hosts run out of bedrooms
  • Longleat Safari Park is just down the road – why not stay in our Family Suite? And remember to book your tickets online in advance, to save time and money
  • Babington House is perhaps 10 minutes down the road – we love to welcome guests for Babington and Orchardleigh weddings, in fact the local taxis have pretty well worn grooves in the road
  • Stourhead house and gardens are fifteen minutes away, with other National Trust properties in easy reach – not forgetting the retail therapy, museums and Spa experience available in nearby Bath
  • Frome has fascinating artisan shops, excellent for vintage clothing, jewellery, gifts and much more – plus regular enticing street markets. And Nunney itself is so pretty, with bijou mediaeval castle & church plus Nunney Fayre every August
  • The local pub "The George at Nunney" has excellent food, and is both child- and dog-friendly – but book ahead for safety, even during the week. There's also a nice cafe near the castle
