The
Experience

Originally a meeting place for workers on the Tyntesfield estate, this lovely inn now basks in a playful Victorian country-house style. Tasselled lampshades hang above the bar, the odd stately bust wears a flat cap, pot plants rise next to leather sofas. The painted bar, imaginatively stocked, features the inn’s own Flatcappers Ale as well as other local brews, while The Club Room – once the village hall – is a lively dining room… though this is an informal place and you can eat wherever you want. And eat, you will. The food is excellent, lovely pub classics that are hard to resist, perhaps local gammon, free-range eggs and hand-cut chips or shepherd’s pie with a white wine gravy and pickled red cabbage. Upstairs, a clutch of beautiful rooms wait. All come grandly adorned: lovely big beds, fat leather armchairs, fantastic walk-in showers. You get period wallpapers and lots of colour; one has a free-standing bath and a shower for two. Pick up the papers and sink into a sofa or spin across the road and walk on the Tyntesfield estate. The coast at Clevedon is close. Brilliant.

Reviews

we found this place so handy to break our journey down to Cornwall. the staff were welcoming and helpful, the bed was really comfy and the shower larege and refreshing. We ate in the restaurant and found the food well prepared and tasty. My vegetarian partner had a risotto that was well cooked if a little tepid. The breakfast was generous and well prepared.
