The
Experience

Welcome to the village of Dinder – a bit like Dibley but without Dawn French. It’s all very English with impossibly ancient houses, well-tended gardens, a cricket team, a village hall and an honesty library in the telephone box. You stay in the old stables, next door to owner Rachel, but with your own entrance and garden. Walk straight in to a swish kitchen with pale blue units, a slate floor and a pretty window seat with striped cushions. There’s all you need to whip up a storm, including cookery books, and Rachel leaves you basics along with homemade flapjack and bottles of local cider. All is cosy thanks to underfloor heating. Upstairs to a good-sized sitting room with a floor height window, exposed stone walls, fresh flowers, a big sofa and lots of books – a smart TV too. Through an archway is the bedroom with a very well-dressed bed and a sweet village view; the bathroom has a walk-in shower and creamy white walls. Lovers will be hard pushed to get out and about but there’s lots to do: borrow wellies and walk to an award-winning pub, pop along to Frome and Wells for fab independent shopping.

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Rachel Wylie

  • This peaceful, rural idyll boasts no through traffic and no street lights. A short hop across fields to an ‘award winning’ pub with scrumptious food and ‘locals' at the bar. For your return a torch is provided, or turn it off and be guided by the stars!
  • The smallest City in England, Wells, just 2 miles, boasts a magnificent Cathedral and Bishop's Palace with moat and resident swans. History buffs can also visit National Trust treasures including Montacute House, Lytes Carey and Stourhead House and garden.
  • Nestling on the southern slopes of the Mendip hills, an AONB, the walks are prolific, with abundant wildlife. Deer is often spotted on a dusk walk. For bird lovers, don’t forget to take your camera to the levels to capture amazing starling murmurations.
  • Food glorious food- Brunch at a bistro in Bath, lunch at one of Somerset's gorgeous public houses, then later, amongst numerous other fantastic eateries, why not fine dine with Michelin starred Adrian Goodfellow at ‘Goodfellows’, just down the road?
  • Discover our amazing markets – Frome’s fabulous Independent market (1st Sunday April – December), and the twice weekly farmers markets in Wells (Saturday, Wednesday), are a must. Not forgetting the famous Antique markets at the Bath and West Showground.
  • There is plenty of room in the secure garage for ‘active types' to store their paraphernalia, e.g. bikes or shopping bags! Numerous Cycle routes, two golf clubs and a designer shopping outlet within minutes, provide all you need to fulfill your desires.
