The
Experience

Down a long private track surrounded by fields and woodland is your house with a courtyard full of plants and an orchard. Take your morning coffee on the bench that catches the sun just outside your sitting room.

Jessica lives next door and delivers a breakfast basket when you want – good coffee and tea, local sourdough, croissants, homemade jam and muesli plus hand-pressed apple juice from the orchard. Cooked breakfast is a little extra – perhaps scrambled eggs and salmon.

It’s idyllic here: peaceful and secluded, but near some quirky Somerset hubs – Mells is two miles away and Frome’s independent café, restaurants and shops, plus fab monthly market, are six miles. Return to a glass of wine in the courtyard and relax.

Reviews

We were meeting friends for dinner at nearby Babington House and found Courtyard Jericho online. It’s a beautiful and homely hidden gem. So peaceful and we were made to feel at home straight away - the room configuration means that you have plenty of space and privacy. Breakfast is brought to your own private dining space adjacent to the room. Really unique!

Ben, Calne

A peaceful spot in beautiful Somerset countryside near a great village (Mells) and a fabulous location for walking, cycling and relaxing. The space was well decorated and comfortable and Jessica and family very welcoming. Thank you - I'd have no problem recommending The Courtyard to others!

Lisa, Southampton

What a stunning spot. An absolute gem of a place. We were attending a wedding in the area and happened upon Jericho and I’m so glad we did. Stylish room with some lovely vintage pieces, comfortable bed, delicious breakfast delivered to the door. Jessica couldn’t have been more accommodating and lovely. Highly recommend.

Juliet, Haslemere

A really lovely B&B. Beautiful surroundings and scenery, gorgeous room and lovely breakfast hamper. The hosts are really friendly and welcoming and it's just a wonderfully relaxing place to stay.

Nicola, Birmingham

Lovely setting and beautifully decorated, the Courtyard at Jericho was an absolute joy to stay at. It's really handily located on the NCN route 24 so perfect for a cycling trip. Jessica and Keith were great hosts too - full of great tips for days out and directions to pubs etc. Only downside was the weather!

Location

The neighbourhood

The house is in a rural location, but the garden backs onto the Sustrans Route 24 cycle path. You’re only five minutes from the decadent delights of Babington House (if you're going to a wedding there Jericho is a very convenient place to stay). Mells is two miles away; try The Talbot Inn, which has a lovely garden, or The Walled Garden opposite for wood-fired pizza. For more restaurants, shops and artisan markets head to Frome, a 15-minute drive.

Local points of interest from Jessica Conway

  • Stroll out of the back gate and straight onto the cycle path which takes you to Mells & Frome or to the World Heritage city of Bath. Stunning views and fabulous birdlife makes this the perfect place for a romantic walk or a relaxed (or serious!) cycle ride
  • The historic village of Mells is just 2 miles away. Have dinner at the award winning gastropub, The Talbot, or wander through The Walled Garden and relax with a cup of tea & homemade cake or a pizza from their wood fired oven.
  • Jericho really is a romantic spot, with stunning rural views and a wonderful sense of seclusion. Many people have said it reminds them of Provence!
  • Frome's bustling monthly market 'The Frome Independent' offers a wonderful selection of local produce and vintage finds. A must for those who love an authentic, friendly market and a good bargain!
  • Those interested in art should definitely visit the Hauser & Wirth gallery in Bruton. The Somerset outpost of the internationally acclaimed gallery always has fascinating exhibitions as well as a shop and an excellent restaurant, The Roth Bar & Grill.
  • There is a gorgeous walk along the Mells river, most easily accessed from the village of Great Elm. The path takes you through the woods alongside the water and is filled with bluebells in Spring and blissfully cool in summer.
