Generations of Hawkings have farmed here for a hundred years and present owners, David and Catherine are making their mark encouraging wildlife, pioneering chilli farming, establishing a thriving farm shop, and now the doors are open to two very different spaces so you, your other half, or the whole gang can stay! Couples are hidden away across the lane in a smartly converted barn – it’s light and beamy with wood floors, a sleek galley kitchen, bright sofa and luxy bedroom and bathroom – you’re left nice granola in jars plus all the basics. If your brood is bigger, Catherine’s cottage is the place. Plunder the farm shop across the yard for suppers in the shaker-style kitchen with long evenings to follow by the toasty Rayburn. Kip in art-filled rooms with vintage fabrics and views. Through the wild garden, under the rose arch, there’s a field for games and silliness where any overflow can camp festival-style in bell tents. Day trips are abundant here – Bristol, Bath, Hanham Court Gardens or Dyrham Park. Or, your obliging hosts will direct you across the fields, past the pigs (William and Kate) to the Cotswold Way.
