There’s a rare sense of fun here; local champions Gemma and Chris saw the views of the Blackdown Hills from their rundown farm buildings and dreamt up The Shed. The result is near limitless style and joy. You live in one barn – panelled walls, high ceiling and wood-burner make for a hunting lodge feel. Kids will be busy in the cosy (but that doesn’t mean small, nothing does here) cinema room or across the yard in the big barn with climbing wall, table tennis, air hockey and indoor pool. Bedrooms are just the sort you need to get away from everyone – calm and en suite and the two family rooms are comfortable for two adults or four children in each. The mood is cool greys and simplicity paired with vintage finds – a painted chest here, a piano there, a salvaged pew, an up-cycled billiard table for feasting. Chefs will be dying to use the kitchen, a slick granite-topped affair or if you’re feeling adventurous – and you will, it’s infectious – Gemma will provide a fine spread. Cross the fields to the sweet village of Milverton, venture further to the Quantocks for walking and cycling and the beach is forty minutes.
