The
Experience

It’s impossible to do justice to the ‘nests’ that make up Grove Cottages, so here’s a taster. Open fires in many, hand-made kitchens in all, kilim rugs and characterful throws, charmingly reclaimed doors and floors, all lovingly cared for, all spotless. You’re treated to Lavenham bread, real coffee, bacon from the butcher, and butter and eggs in your welcome pack. A lovely big grassy garden laps to the edge of the field; ducks waddle along the lane. Mark, delightful film director and generous host, describes the feel of these rustically romantic outbuildings as “Suffolk meets New York loft”. All the cottages feel private, especially the self-contained Bakery (perfect for honeymooners) and Gun Cottage at the far end. You’ll find deckchairs, washing machine and driers in the ‘walk-thru’, and an invaluable ‘insider’s guide’ to the area. Set in three river valleys – Box, Brett and Stour – this is the countryside that Constable made famous. Take one of the bikes that are freely available, hire a canoe, follow a footpath across the fields; one leads to a pub. One of our favourite places to unwind!
