From the heart-shaped rose bed in the front garden to the horses peeping over the back fence, this is a friendly place to stay with a delightful old-fashioned charm. Older children will love being able to walk to the village through fields or take the wiggly path to a safe sandy beach (mostly devoid of tourists) in just ten minutes, or quicker by bike.
Inside is light and bright: a hall with stairs going up the middle, a comfy sofa, family pictures and a curved window seat. Take a cup of tea to the sun room overlooking the garden and relish the peace. The kitchen has all you need, with basics for cooking in the cupboards, an Aga to warm you in chilly months, a big table and two fridges. Bedrooms have linen from Peter Jones and lovely garden views.
Doors open up to the big lawn at the back of the house for games or sprawling. Stock up at the village shop – a ten-minute walk. There’s also a good butcher here and a cafe.
