The Experience

This traditional, comfortable house is on the edge of Ridgewood and down a drive, so all is peaceful. Welcoming too – you arrive for tea and a choice of four different homemade cakes; sit under the grapevine in the garden or in the sitting room, which has lots of snug sofas and an open fire.

Bedrooms have lovely linen, leafy views – and homemade biscuits. The larger room has a sofa, and there’s a travel cot, books and games for children. You have breakfast next to French windows overlooking the prettily kept walled garden – compotes, often rhubarb, homemade jams and a full English with all the trimmings and eggs however you want them.

Glyndebourne is just seven miles away – pack up a picnic and spend the day there. Just down the road you can catch a bus to Brighton or Lewes, and there are some good pubs for dinner within three or so miles.

Lucy made us very welcome, the cottage is delightful, perfection in terms of a lovely , warm home. The quality of everything is superb- from bed linen, towels ,each detail is thought of. Breakfasts 100%. The setting of the cottage is not easy to find but well worth it once the ‘hole’ or gap in the hedge is found and dirt track navigated. Highly recommended .

Carol, London

Lucy is a very welcoming owner and goes out of her way to make sure you enjoy your stay in her peaceful, relaxed home. The beds are massive and absolutely sumptuous! And a very pretty garden for a delicious afternoon tea.

The neighbourhood

Park Cottage is up a small track off the road, and one of just a handful of houses. It faces farmland at the front and playing fields at the back with views of allotments. From the garden you can walk into a small park, The Millennium Green. A post office and shop are a few minutes away. Uckfield, with its shops, cinema and walks along the river Uck is a 15-minute walk.

Local points of interest from Lucy Ann

  • Park Cottage is the ideal location to stay if going to the world famous Glyndebourne opera. This is situated in gorgeous parkland in the heart of the Sussex Countryside.
  • There are many wonderful gardens within easy reach - Batemans, the home of Rudyard Kipling, Sheffield Park, Pashley Manor, Borde Hill and Nymans to name but a few.
  • Six miles away is the county town of Lewes with it’s specialist independent shops, historical buildings and on certain days the subtle aroma of brewing hops permeating from Harvey’s Brewery.
  • Close by is Charleston Farmhouse of Bloomsbury group fame with unique painted interiors, beautiful walled garden and an art gallery in a newly renovated barn. Continuing with the Bloomsbury theme is The Monkhouse home of Virginia Woolfe.
  • If needing to entertain children there is Drusillas Park - a small zoo with around 200 different species of animals with many interactive sections throughout. There is also an extremely popular well thought out adventure playground.
  • Close to Drusillas is the Rathfinny Wine Estate which is situated in the South Downs on the outskirts of the picturesque village of Alfriston, which in itself is well worth a visit. The Vineyard has a restaurant overlooking stunning views.
