Set in velvety hills dotted with sheep and criss-crossed by hedges, this 50-acre farm is in proper ‘get away from it all’ countryside. Friendly owners Zoe and Jim have transformed one-storey Apple Press into a welcoming, timber-clad retreat. Inside, Scandi-style modern furniture and a gratifying lack of clutter are a breath of fresh air. Fabrics and wallpapers from Zoe’s textiles business are gorgeous – arrange to visit her studio if you’d like to buy. Cooking’s a breeze in a simple yet well equipped kitchen; guests are welcomed with freshly laid eggs from the hens and ducks and in summer you may get a trug of fresh produce from the garden. Things couldn’t be more family friendly, with cots, high chairs and toys all available on request. Bright bedrooms have a contemporary feel and pretty views. Outside, a fire pit and barbecue mean summer evenings lounging on the terrace will be inevitable. Pop in to the 13th-century farmhouse if you need help or advice, say hello to two friendly alpacas in the opposite field.
