The Experience

Tucked behind a row of period houses on a quiet cul-de-sac, with the front door totally hidden, this Grade II* listed cottage has been carefully renovated using local artisans, and beautifully furnished throughout. You’ll be comfortable and calm here in minutes, surrounded by exposed Cotswold stone walls and beams, handmade pottery and throws, and vases of wildflowers on every floor.

Find eggs, milk, bread and more – local, delicious and mostly organic – in the characterful, well-equipped kitchen. Upstairs is a bathroom filled with Bramley products, and a sitting room with tasteful art, TV, books and magazines. Your restful bedroom is above, under a traditional mansard roof.

Walk into town, around the local park, along the river Avon or to the National Trust village of Lacock. Cycle to the ancient stone circle of Avebury, mainly off-road. The Gladstone Arms, The Three Crowns and plenty of restaurants are a stroll. Stonehenge is a 45-minute drive, and the largest artificial prehistoric mound in Europe at Silbury Hill, is just 20 minutes.

Reviews

Absolutely stunning cottage, excellent hosts and a fantastic base to explore the surrounding countryside. Highly recommended!

Anthony

It’s a charming cottage. Everything is clean and in great condition. Very comfortable bed, bedroom, living room and bath. The owners provide quality breakfast foods, as well as coffee and tea. The location is perfect and is an excellent base for exploring the region.

James, New york

2 nights in this gorgeous cottage wasn’t enough! It’s so pretty, the bed was very comfy and it was decorated very well.

Victoria

A dear, private, little cottage - quiet and secluded within a stone's throw of the centre and a hop away from the park. A top-notch renovation of a weaver's cottage providing a very comfortable base from which to discover all the wonderful places around.

Lovely restored cottage on what must be the most historic street in Chippenham..... Peaceful area but just minutes away from a local Tesco, pubs, hotels etc. We found it an excellent base, you can just wander down to the river for a roundabout walk into town or do what we love doing, going much further afield to visit historic houses and villages etc. which are in abundance. Everything you want or need is in the cottage and is top quality and having one night in out of a three night stay was bliss, so quiet. The owners are on hand if any help needed, really couldn't fault our stay, perfect!

Jason, Brighton

This property was an absolute delight! Everything (bed, furniture, furnishings, fittings) was all of the highest standard. It was extremely warm and comfortable. Wifi was excellent. 2 min walk to town. Absolutely amazing!

Lucinda

The most beautiful romantic quaint cottage for a couple set in a stunning part of the country. Gorgeous breakfast items left for you, and a great host who was very accommodating. Would highly recommend. My partner and I dined in a recommended bistro pub in Lacock and had an amazing night in front of a log fire!

Location

The neighbourhood

Chippenham and its surroundings have heaps of places to visit. In Chippenham itself, there’s the Grade I listed Yelde Hall and Chippenham Museum. Bowood House, a Georgian country house with interiors by Robert Adam and a garden designed by Lancelot 'Capability' Brown, is a 10-minute drive, as is Lacock Abbey, a former monastery that was once home to Fox Talbot. The Bybrook, Castle Combe's Michelin starred restaurant, is a 15-minute drive. Historic Bath is less than 15 minutes by train or half an hour by car.

Local points of interest from Lisa & Mark

  • You're a 10-minute walk from the station. Jump on the train and you'll arrive in Bath in less than 15 minutes, London in just over an hour and Bristol in under 30 minutes.
  • Explore ancient sites such as Avebury (20-minute drive) and Stonehenge (40 minutes) - the world's largest stone circle with stone avenues and ancient tombs.
  • There are many walks from the door through gorgeous countryside, and you can even walk to Avebury mostly off road. It's a foodie area so stop off in a lovely countryside pub!
  • The cottage is opposite a park and the river Avon - sit out with a picnic and sun-downer. Go wild swimming in Lacock or Bradford-upon-Avon (20 minutes) - the Glove Factory, Holt is a great spot and popular with locals.
  • Cycle directly onto the picturesque and tranquil (off road) Cycle Route 403, which crosses the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
  • Find lots of National Trust properties and iconic villages nearby such as Dyrham Park, Lacock and Castle Coombe. Find quintessential English villages lined with pretty cottages and independent shops.
