Talbot Inn

Tenbury Wells, Worcestershire

Duck breast, turnip, pear, Robinsons cider fondant potato... Then to bed in a stylish room with soft carpets, to sweetly dream

7 rooms

Rooms sleep 2

This fine 19th-century red brick coaching inn once welcomed hop and apple pickers to the Teme Valley for a season’s work. Now, after a meticulous renovation, it caters for weary travellers’ needs in the best possible manner. Grab an armchair by the fire with a pint of Wye Valley or Hobson’s Ale, and admire photos of local rural heritage. Menus operate from a specials board and have a rustic-contemporary appeal: start with chicken liver parfait, pear & ginger preserve, before monkfish tail, spiced pearl barley, sultana and kale. The sirloin steaks are a favourite, as is the sticky toffee pudding. There’s a peaceful lounge, a panelled dining room and charming staff and owners will see that your stay is just right. Bedrooms are calm, uncluttered and stylish with soft carpets, bespoke headboards and one-off pieces of furniture: bathrooms are equally sleek, with limestone tiling and White Company toiletries. All are a good size, have super-thick curtains to absorb a small amount of road noise, and beds for the sweetest of dreams.
