The Experience

A welcoming house in the picturesque village of Harome between the North York Moors and the Howardian Hills.

Find inviting bedrooms with pampering extras: bath robes, fluffy towels, spa treats and flowers. Come down to a scrumptious breakfast of local farm shop sausages, bacon and black pudding, eggs from the hens and freshly baked bread. For a lighter start, choose croissants or the breakfast booster – a refreshing mix of fruit, toasted jumbo oats and honey-soaked nuts.

Frances loves to bake, so look forward to homemade cake each afternoon of your stay. There’s a snug sitting room with books and magazines to delve into; decamp to the summerhouse in the garden on warm days. Dinner is a stroll away – try the acclaimed Star Inn, pretty and thatched with seasonal menus and leafy garden.

A relaxing rural retreat in Ryedale! Our Hosts, Frances and Stuart, provided a wonderful welcome with home made cake and freshly picked raspberries from their garden. We enjoyed a beautiful spacious room with views of the garden and surrounding countryside, a comfortable super king bed, and a lovely bathroom with roll top bath. Our delicious breakfast was cooked to order each morning, accompanied by freshly brewed tea and coffee. The area is a delight with much to enjoy and explore. We will definitely return, hopefully for longer next time.

After reading the reviews below it's hard to find anything else to say in praise of Frances, Stuart and Croft House. We had a wonderful three days with them enjoying their large beautiful garden, exceptionally comfortable room and warm hospitality. We shall come back. Thank you to you both.

Julia, Cheltenham

I can’t recommend Croft House highly enough. I have stayed in many Sawday-recommended places before and this ranks amongst my favourites for warm, generous hospitality, exceptionally good food ( including home-made cake!), very high standard rooms and ideal location with numerous visitor attractions and excellent restaurants nearby; also on the doorstep of stunning countryside. Hope to return very soon.

Croft House is one of the best B&B we have stayed in 20 years of using Alistair Sawdays Special Places to stay. Frances and Stuart have created a beautiful environment, high quality restored cottage, lovely garden, very comfortable accommodation and hospitality. We were made very welcome and hope to return

John, Taunton

There is a generosity and warmth about Croft House. Frances and Stuart make you feel very welcome in their comfortable house. Delicious breakfasts, and tea and cake on arrival and every afternoon. Excellent access to good walking, National Trust properties and high quality pubs. Our fourth stay. A special place.

Helen, Rochdale

A beautiful example of a warm and welcoming Yorkshire B&B. A lovely setting, with a timeless yet stylish interior, that is clean and comfortable. Frances was an ideal host, making us feel immediately at home. The lovely bedding, homemade cake and delightful breakfast, makes you want to stay longer. It offers brilliant value for a stay in the village, and the small and comfortable lounge for guests to use is a lovely feature.

John, London

There's a calming and friendly atmosphere here - rooms are comfortable in muted tones and there are lots of different garden spaces to explore. Food is local or homemade plus you can walk down the road for Michelin starred food - what more could you want! Walks from the door and pretty market town Helmesely is close by to explore. You'll be well looked after here.

The neighbourhood

Heaps of walking and cycling around Harome and there’s a safe lock-up for bikes in the garden. There's a lovely walk along the river from Harome to Nunnington - visit the NTs Nunnington Hall. It’s just two miles to Helmsley where you can join the Cleveland Way, visit independent shops and cafes, wander round Helmsley Castle or visit the Birds of Prey Centre. The North York Moors National Park can be seen from your window; Dalby Forest is great for biking and walking (30-minute drive). The coast and Whitby are an hour away; York 45 minutes. The Star Inn, Michelin-starred, is 50 yards from the door; The Pheasant Hotel restaurant a five-minute stroll through the village.

Frances Outram

Frances and Stuart moved here from York in 2012 and set about renovating their village house into an inviting place to live and enjoy. Frances taught food and hospitality for many years and now uses her skills and experience to create delicious food and provide a warm welcome for all who stay.
