The Experience

You’ll feel nicely independent here above the old stables, surrounded by 6,000 acres of woodland, river, moors and meadows. A comfortable sitting room has a huge stone fireplace (all logs provided) and you have your own breakfast room: tuck into Whitby kippers or a full English, with eggs from the owners’ hens if they are laying and honey from hives on the heather-filled moor when available.

There are wonderful walks through the estate, or you can join the Coast to Coast path which runs alongside it. Wildlife is in abundance: you’ll see otters and kingfishers if you stay hushed, there are heron skulking by the river and you can try your hand at fly fishing along the river or in the estate’s reservoir.

A five-minute walk will take you to the Horseshoe Hotel with its outdoor bar and barbecue and a farm shop which sells local produce. Pack up a picnic on fine days and head to one of many wide sandy beaches. Egton station is a two-minute walk for a train to Whitby.

Reviews

We spent three nights at Egton Estate and enjoyed the friendly hospitality of Laura and Olly who couldn't do enough to make us feel welcome. Delicious breakfasts and comfortable bed. Great atmosphere with their three sons being on half term cycling about the place. Good local pubs for supper and within easy distance of Whitby and the beautiful North York moors. Would recommend to anyone wanting a peaceful break in lovely surroundings.

Had a lovely four day break at Egton Hall in one of the B&B rooms in the courtyard. Laura and Ollie are lovely people and very welcoming. It was so nice to get away from the computer screen for a few days. Very comfy beds and a nice breakfast in beautiful surroundings. Hopefully we will be back at some point.

Wonderful two night stay at the beautiful Egton Estate. We were made to feel extremely welcome by Olly and youngest son Ned, who are very much striving to keep the estate up and running, such a beautiful setting. Our little dog Peaky absolutely loved it 🐶 There are two pubs about a five minute walk away, both delivering great food and service. Lovely walk into Grosmont where you can pick up the steam train to Whitby. We both said we didn’t want to leave…. keep up the good work Olly and Laura, we will be back! David and Alison.

What a lovely place to get away from it all. So peaceful and quiet. Very pretty room, great breakfasts and such a warm welcome from owners Laura and Olly. Great location for both moorland and coastal walks which our dogs thoroughly enjoyed! We had to drag ourselves away.

Trish, Liss

A wonderful stay with our two young children. Olly, Laura and their delightful boys could not have been more welcoming or hospitable. Their passion for preserving the estate is clear and they were incredibly generous in sharing it with us during our stay. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Egton and can’t wait to return. Thank you for looking after us so beautifully.

A very, very special place. Superb hosts in a stunningly beautiful setting. A real treat and a little piece of heaven in which to relax. The local area is breathtaking. We had a wonderful 3 nights. Olly and Laura were so generous. We have stayed in many Sawday places but this one is truly wonderful. Highly recommend!

Location

The neighbourhood

There are several good pubs just a short walk from the stables, including a lovely 20-minute stroll to The Wheatsheaf Egton for Michelin pub guide food. The picturesque town of Whitby with its interesting maritime history, stunning abbey and the romantic story of Count Dracula is only six miles away. Malton (known as the food capital of Yorkshire) is a 30 minute drive and nearby is Castle Howard.
