The Experience

Steeped in history, the Yorkshire village of Crayke was named in the Domesday Book. Today, it’s known for its award-winning gastropub The Durham Ox, where you can linger over a pint of cask ale while you pick up the keys to your lovely bolthole. Ivy Cottage is the latest venture of Michael and Sasha, the pub’s charming owners, and their experience of hospitality shines through as soon as you step through the door.

Comfy sofas and chairs surround an open fire in the homely sitting room, while light floods into an airy kitchen with a farmhouse table for six. French doors open on to a neat garden where you can sip a glass of wine as the sun goes down. Sleep beneath old, vaulted beams at the top of the house, or in two bright rooms with finely dressed beds on the first floor. Spotless modern bathrooms are stocked with fragrant L’Occitane products.

Hire bikes or walk through the glorious Vale of York.

Reviews

We were visiting North Yorkshire for a birthday and with various events spread over a long weekend we needed a good location. Crayke and particularly Ivy Cottage was a fantastic location from which to visit all the key places we needed to visit. The Cottage itself was just lovely and could easy accommodate all of us and dogs. Comfy beds and great views at breakfast - brilliant. If you don't want to cook you can nip up the road to the Durham Ox pub where there are lots of options. Thanks

Fergus, Oxford

Ivy Cottage is a perfect place to spend a few days with friends. The beds are really comfortable and the garden is perfect for a morning coffee and for the dog to pop out - the kitchen is lovely and everything is perfectly thought out - The Durham Ox is only a minute’s walk away for dinner. Really great! We’ll definitely be back.

Just wanted to say how much we loved Ivy Cottage, it’s perfect and so well equipped and cosy, I could of stayed for a week! Thank you once again, hope to see you soon.

Andrew, Hovingham

You'll relax in this cosy period cottage, sleeping 6 on 3 floors, with beams & an open fire, and a large kitchen diner opening onto the cottage garden. There's an award-winning gastropub on the doorstep, and oodles of history in this hilltop village with elevated views & beautiful walks. You can even walk up Church Hill which is said to be the hill that the soldiers of The Grand Old Duke of York marched up!

Caroline, Sawday's Inspector

We stayed at Ivy Cottage for the third time and can't recommend it highly enough. The cottage is beautifully kitted out, tastefully decorated and in the prettiest village ever! We also went to eat at The Durham Ox just 20 steps from the cottage (and owned by the same people) and Sunday lunch was AMAZING! Definitely one of our favourite places to spend time - we'll be back for a fourth holiday soon!

Emma, Farnham

Pretty much perfect. We arrived tired and full of cold in mid-January, just wanting really to flake out, but the setting, the fabulous Durham Ox up the road, and the walks around the village cured us both of our colds and January Blues. Every night we walked to the pub along starlit roads, were treated royally with delicious food and red wine (the staff didn't bat an eyelid as they stepped uncomplainingly over our deerhound, who insisted on hogging the fire), then tottered back the five minutes to the cottage, which was warm and cosy. A winter rest cure if ever there was one.

Caroline, Durham

Probably the best holiday cottage we've ever stayed in! The cottage is beautifully decorated inside and sits in the most picturesque village...with a divine pub only a few stumbling steps away! We've stayed 3 times now and will do so again!

Emma, London

Ivy Cottage is divine. We have stayed many times at the pub sister a stones throw away The Durham Ox but this was our first time in the cottage and it is perfect for us and our 2 dogs! It is furnished beautifully with incredible equipment, theres even a blender in the kitchen and they thoughtfully left a pile of DVD's for us to watch on the 50 inches screen TV! We have already booked to go back in April and May, simply heavenly!
