The Experience

In the gentle foothills of the North York Moors, four miles from the market town of Kirkbymoorside, lies Normanby, an ancient settlement blessed with a Norman church and a trout stream. And, tucked behind the village street, through the picket gate, this immaculate little cottage. Having swapped a farmhouse in the Lakes for Little Garth, Pippa has poured love into its revival. Now all is light, warm and cosy inside, with plenty of pretty things to catch the eye: old paintings, quirky pots, cheerful rugs on polished flagged floors. Fresh flowers glow on old pine tops, cotton-covered armchairs are deep and comfortable, and a super, bright, light kitchen with all the kit opens to a very private rose and honeysuckle garden. After a day’s roaming the sheep-speckled moors, bliss to snuggle down here. Light the candles, throw another log on the fire, pop the cork, or stroll to the pub for a drink. For eating out, Pippa recommends The Sun Inn at Normanby, a short walk. Return to sweetly floral bedrooms with gleaming white woodwork and generously clad beds. A lovely, very comfy hideaway.

Reviews

We have just stayed at Little Garth and had a wonderful week. The cottage is lovely and cosy with a very comfortable bed and everything that you could need. The cottage is in a great location with a lovely village pub, The Sun, and brilliantly located for walking to Nunnington Hall and visiting Pickering, Helmsley and Rievaulx Abbey. We had brilliant weather for the whole week and the cottage was a perfect base to come back to each night. We hope to stay again.

Characteristic charming country cottage fully equipped with everything you could need including lots of space for parking your car and also cottage is dog friendly with secure garden. Conveniently located for Yorkshire’s beautiful moorland countryside yet still close to Helmsley and Pickering. There is an easy local walk from the cottage following the river to Marton. Excellent pub food within a two minute walk at The Sun Inn, Normanby, again very dog friendly.

This charming cottage was so warm and welcoming after a long drive. Contact with the owner Phillippa prior to booking was efficient and well organised. The cottage is cosy and has everything needed for a perfect stay. Everything was immaculately clean and beautifully arranged. Information about where to access amenities was readily available in the house or from the owner. The cottage’s pretty garden is a lovely place to relax in good weather. The friendly village pub has good food and in the surrounding area are many other great places to eat. A perfect holiday cottage of high standard.

Little Garth is a charming cottage in a lovely part of the country. Philippa had beautifully decorated the cottage for us arriving, for Christmas, and it looked and felt like our home from home. The original ranges were very atmospheric and it was a pleasure to return to Little Garth after long days of walking and visiting Yorkshire’s delights. We went to the pub across the road probably too often in our week (who’s counting at Christmas?) but that was down to the hospitality of the family who run the pub, as well as the locals - welcoming would be an understatement!

Absolutely delightful cottage meticulously kept. Philippa was very kind and helpful. We thoroughly recommend Little Garth!
