The Experience

A stunning spot, right on the edge of the Peaks. Charming owners Jim and Mary, who live here, have done a grand job converting four cottages, including your listed milking parlour. The sitting room is flooded with light, the feel is solid and homely, sofas are of the completely squishy variety, views are glorious, and games, books and DVDs keep everyone happy.

The kitchen is filled with all you need for a leisurely supper round the farmhouse table, or a picnic by the barbecue hut outside. A biomass boiler gives you piping hot water, powerful showers and underfloor heating. A hot tub under the stars is shared and there’s a day spa to ease your limbs.

Upstairs you’ll find woollen blankets over feather duvets, deep set windows and more green views. There are stunning walks in any direction with footpaths starting from the door and a good pub just a couple of miles away.

Reviews

This is my second stay at The Farmhouse and I came with my family this time. The facilities are lovely with far more equipment in the kitchen than you would expect in a self-catering property. A great base for day trips in the area and a cosy but spacious place to return to. Hope to come back in the future.

Catherine, Llanfairfechan

Just returned from an amazing weekend at these cottages. Super comfortable and fully equipped not to mention the most relaxing time and treatment at the spa. 5 stars!

Raheela, Leeds

Had the most amazing stay. The staff were truly amazing and went above and beyond to ensure we had a great stay. Travel to stay with a group for a friends 40th and we couldn’t believe the value for money! The accommodation is outstanding and the spa was something else. The treatments were wonderful I couldn’t fault a thing. The accommodation was kitted out with high end products and lots of extras for tea coffee and breakfast. Great wow factor. I will definitely be going again!

K, Leeds

Such a wonderful way to spend my 40th birthday with my friends. The whole experience at Smallshaw was amazing from start to finish. The cottages are perfect in an idyllic setting and the exclusive spa was lush!

What a fantastic place to stay! Myself, husband, parents and our dog stayed in Rowan Cottage. It was so beautiful with everything you could ever need! Set in such a peaceful location either amenities close by. We will be booking to come back and would definitely recommend to anyone! Especially with having a dog it was perfect to go on walks. There is lots of information provided! Can't wait to come back!

Rebecca, Nottingham

Great location, fab cottages we hired them all. They were spotless clean and well equipped. We had a great weekend would highly recommend. We will definitely be back.

Tracy, Sheffield

Stunning as always, highly recommended

Rebecca, Worksop

Our third visit this year, this time with our elderly Mum. The weather was perfect, the cottage clean, comfortable and well equipped, we discovered new places to visit and really enjoyed the garden. Thank you Jim and Mary for all your hard work.

Sue, Leeds

We had a wonderful time at smallshaw cottages. The site is beautifully kept with gorgeous views and very peaceful. The spa is a real bonus. The cottage had everything we needed and the beds and pillows super comfy. We couldn’t resist lighting a small fire one evening in the log burner where everything had been provided. We didn’t use the bar b q hut as there was only two of us but hope to bring the family back soon. One small suggestion, a roller blind on the back door might be a nice addition to give privacy when using the downstairs wet room which was an added luxury we really appreciated.

Dawn, Worthing

Fantastic cottage nestled in a stunning location with panoramic views. The facilities were great and it was lovely to be able to use the spa, hot tub and grounds. Very dog friendly but the only thing lacking was a secure area to let the dog out for a wee last thing at night. Will definitely be making a return visit!

Alison, Huddersfield

We all loved our stay at the Farmhouse, it was great for our family of 6 plus our dog. The house is spacious, beautifully designed, with lovely fireplaces and breath-taking views from the windows. The surrounding area is gorgeous, having breakfast in the garden watching the horses nearby was enjoyed by all of us. The hot tub is excellent for relaxing with a glass of wine (or a juice for the kids) in the evening after a good day's hike.

Brilliant Rowan Cottage. Definitely 5 star as it said by the door. Great location superb kitchen. Fabulous!

David, Bedford

Birch cottage had everything you could need for a self-catering trip and was so beautiful and comfortable! The location is stunning and the views are gorgeous from every window. The breakfast hamper was great, especially when we realised there was already milk in the fridge! We visited the spa twice and were so impressed - this was definitely one of the nicest we've been to in terms of facilities, cleanliness and atmosphere. We used the hot tub one evening which was clean and easy to operate, and very private despite being shared. Thank you so much for a perfect little break!

Emily, Bradford

A really well kept and organised property - the surrounding gardens are beautiful too. An amazing location for a family holiday - Thanks to Mary and Jim for making this holiday on to remember for us and the kids

Simon, Naxxar Malta

The cottage and the surrounding area were gorgeous. Clean, cosy and very spacious. It had everything we needed. The kitchen was very well stocked equipment wise so you could cook everything as you would at home. The spa was fantastic. It had fabulous facilities and friendly helpful staff. Our treatments were great and everything was well explained and we had lots of choice. Checking in and out were straightforward although booking and the confirmation emails got a bit confusing as automated emails came with slightly different information on but this was easily sorted.

Nicky, Sheffield

The spa is gorgeous! The beautifully restored barns offer self catering accomodation with everything you need to have a home-from/home stay, as well as plenty of local eateries and takeaways should you prefer. The setting (and glorious weather) couldn’t have been more perfect for the festival style hen party that had been planned for our long weekend stay. The views on every side are spectacular and the large paddock area was perfect for the “festival” area. Mary & Jim couldn’t have done anymore to make our stay perfect. Highly recommend Smallshaw farm spa & cottages.

Katie, Sheffield

A wonderful stay. A beautiful location, top quality accommodation with great facilities. Perfect for families.

Tom, Manningtree, Essex

Absolutely sensational stay, facilities, location and state of cottages, spa and grounds above par. Only teeny tiny gripe is the DVD player didn’t work so we had to cast our phones for a movie morning but other than that everything was great . There was tons of room meaning we could have a collective space to celebrate the hen do and bride to be but also have areas if we needed a bit more time out or time to ourselves . The weather almost threatened our stay but the snow only served to make the landscape more picturesque and beautiful. I’ll never forget the views !

Sarah, Earl Shilton

I hired the cottages at Smallshaw for a hen do for the weekend and had an absolutely wonderful time. The cottages were all so well equipped, the owners were so helpful whenever I had questions and the setting of the grounds were gorgeous. We also used the spa facilities in the afternoon which were amazing and just what we needed. I will absolutely be back again and would highly recommend this location to others.

Amy, London

We stayed at the Farmhouse which was amazing. The pictures on the website doesn't do it justice. The grounds are beautiful with a hottub overlooking the hills. We also booked the Finnish BBQ hut for one of the nights which I can highly recommend.
