The Experience
A perfectly proper Victorian terraced house in the lovely suburb of Clifton, but Jonathan and Anthony, your very pleasant hosts, have filled it with all the things they’ve loved and bought on their extensive travels, mainly through the United States. Every picture and object tells a story which they’ll happily share. They also give you a grand breakfast, presided over by President Lincoln: sausages and bacon from the butcher down the road, eggs from a local farm, coffee roasted in York.
Upstairs you’ll find The President’s Lounge, a large and light room for relaxing comfortably and trying out over 30 British, American and Japanese gins from their Ginventory and perhaps a Yorkshire cheesemonger’s board – five Yorkshire cheeses. In bedrooms you’ll find good coffee machines, chocolate biscuits, some locally-made sweets and lots of ideas and maps for venturing out.
You’re a short walk from the centre of York, either by road or along the river – 15-20 minutes.

Accommodation
Location
The neighbourhood
Visit the Minster, one of the world's most glorious cathedrals, then perhaps the Jorvik Viking Centre, site of magnificent discoveries in modern archaeology. Foodies will head for The Shambles with its overhanging timber-framed buildings, some dating back as far as the fourteenth century and with a superb market. The famous racecourse is a ten-minute cab ride.
Local points of interest from Jonathan & Anthony Burgoyne
- We are exactly one mile from the beautiful York Minster, there has been a church in the same location since 627. If you are feeling fit you can take the stairs to the top of the tower for amazing views over the city.
- You can enjoy breakfast al fresco in our beautiful courtyard overlooked by our amazing mural of The Bishop and The Bison. Or catch the afternoon sun while reading your favourite book, the courtyard is for guests to enjoy.
- Are you a gin lover? If so The Presidents Lounge is waiting for you, we have a selection of 30 gins from the British Isles, Japan and the U.S. so go ahead and treat yourself to a flight.
- Shambles market is just over a mile from the hotel and is a foodie heaven. While you are here amble down to the shambles and their food court and check out the amazing food trucks. You can grab cuisine from all over the world.
- If you want to see the city from many different angles then you should walk the city walls. York has the most intact city walls in the UK of 2 miles. The original walls date back to the roman times around the year 71.
- The museums, galleries and tourist attractions of York are all within walking distance from the hotel. Soak up an exhibition in York Gallery, or smell the history of the vikings in the Jorvik centre. If you're a train buff visit the National Railway Museum

Introducing
Jonathan & Anthony Burgoyne
Jonathan, who worked in the hotel industry for years, is front of house and Anthony is a polyglot who looks after the business side - but he also cooks breakfasts because he's more methodical and doesn't get in a muddle like Jonathan does. They spent many years travelling around the US but have settled in York and love to share their house. They have a cat called Lily who thinks she's a princess.
Jonathan and Anthony have created a very imaginative space which is quite unlike anywhere else - made up of many much-loved objects from their travels. You'll feel as if you're in their home rather than an impersonal hotel, and they will look after you beautifully.
