The
Experience
It’s utterly peaceful here and you’re looked after beautifully by a friendly team. You can set up camp in the lounge in front of a roaring open fire where there are books, games and magazines.Bring bikes or hire them from two minutes away (there’s a lockable shed for when you get back) and head to the hills, pack a picnic and walk all day without meeting another soul, spot rare birds including lapwings, explore 14th-century Bolton Castle or historic Richmond.Stroll along the river or visit the craft shops in town, return to a big tea of sandwiches and scones with cream or save yourself for pre-dinner drinks and canapés then à la carte in the smartly renovated 1783 Bar and Restaurant.

I visited with my mum and her friend. This was our third visit and reminded us just why we come back time and again. The Burgoyne is such a special place. Reeth is a stunning village and its setting perfect to visit the Dales. All of the staff are so friendly and welcoming. Nothing is too much trouble for them. The rooms are roomy and full of character. The food is fabulous, absolutely worth every penny. We highly recommend both breakfast and dinner. I can't wait to go back again!

This was our 6th stay at The Burgoyne and we cannot praise it enough. Everything about it is wonderful. The atmosphere is so relaxing and welcoming, and the food is to die for. The owners and staff can't do enough for you and nothing is ever any bother to them. Plus many customers take their dogs with them which I think is so nice to see. We don't have a dog so I suppose people who don't like dogs wouldn't stay there. The bedrooms are very comfortable and so relaxing - always have a good nights sleep there.

We can not speak highly enough of this wonderful place to stay, that combines gracious country house living with a thoroughly warm, welcoming and comfortable home. Nothing was too much trouble for the hosts and staff. Although a splendid hotel, it seemed incredibly 'unstuffy'. Food was fabulous and so welcome after a long day's walk. Rooms were wonderful with stunning views, a comfy bed, Yorkshire tea and homemade shortbread. We will definitely return and encourage others to visit wholeheartedly!

Location
The neighbourhood
The hotel is in the picturesque town of Reeth, where Swaledale and Arkengarthdale bump into each other and form a natural amphitheatre. The hotel can arrange guided walks in and around the town with a focus on local history, or you can discover it for yourself: a variety of craft shops, pubs and tea rooms, the market on the village green on Fridays and the museum which explores the area’s mining and farming past. There are pretty walks along the Swale River too.
Local points of interest from The Team at The Burgoyne
- Swaledale Museum - set in the picturesque village of Reeth in the heart of the Dales, this museum based in the 1836 Methodist School Room tells the story of Swaledale and Arkengarthdale via its geology, lead mining, local culture and crafts.
- Reeth Show on August bank holiday Monday - a traditional Dales agricultural show with a wide range of entertainments, shows, displays, stalls and refreshments.
- Swaledale Festival takes place in May/June. Art, Music & Walking in the Yorkshire Dales. The Festival takes place across the sublime landscape of the three northernmost Dales - Swaledale, Wensleydale and Arkengarthdale.
- Buttertubs Pass - described as one of the UK's most stunning and breathe-taking mountain passes. Bridging the gap between Swaledale and Wensleydale it is not a drive or cycle for the faint-hearted with hundreds of feet of near vertical drops.
- Richmond is nearby, with Richmond Castle, Green Howards Military Regimental Museum and lots more to do!
- The Burgoyne Hotel is under new ownership and management. The hotel has been refurbished throughout, offering a tasteful and traditional style, adding to its character. We have two new chefs with the launch of our 1783 bar & restaurant.
