The stately village of Aboyne (13 miles) is worth the trek for the delightful Boat Inn and the Spider on a Bicycle restaurant. Climb to Cairn a’ Mount (rucksack and maps provided) or hire bikes in Ballater. Spend a day in Aberdeen: it’s 21 miles.
