The
Experience

If you’re looking for a small hotel in a great position with lovely rooms and excellent food, you’ll find it here. There’s a little history, too – the inn was once owned by the real James Bond. Sir Fitzroy Maclean was one of a cast of characters on whom Ian Fleming based his hero; the fact the Royal Navy send their big ships into Loch Fyne is purely coincidental. These days, life at the inn is decidedly restful. Views from the front stretch for miles, the loch eventually giving way to the distant peaks of the Kintyre peninsular. Inside, an airy elegance abounds. There’s a first-floor sitting room with big views; a locals’ bar which doubles as the clubhouse for the shinty team; then picture windows in the smart restaurant, where you dig into super food while watching the sun set, perhaps Ramsay haggis with whisky sauce, pot roast chicken with a thyme jus, bread and butter pudding with honey glazed figs. Comfy bedrooms have lots of style: warm colours, pretty fabrics, delicate wallpapers, robes in sparkling bathrooms; most have loch views. Castles and gardens, golf and boat trips wait.

Local points of interest from Archie & Gillian MacLellan

  • We are on the shores of Loch Fyne which is ever changing in it's mood and atmosphere. We have a fabulous residents lounge with a picture window which is a wonderful setting to relax and just watch the changes.
  • The Lochside is fascinating to explore, as it is a tidal Loch so there is always something new brought into the rock pools and it is right on our doorstep. The water is crystal clear and great for a dip for those brave enough.
  • We are surrounded by stunning hills that make gentle strolls or full day hikes easily accessible. There are woodland walks with Jurassic type gorges and waterfalls to heather laden hillsides teeming with wild deer, grouse and other wildlife.
  • We couldn't forget our resident pooches Hector and Boo. They will always keep any visitors company especially if there is tea ordered with homemade fruitcake or shortbread!
  • Our traditional bar is a a great place to relax too. It's warm and cosy with the woodburning stove and plenty of local ales, Malts and Scottish Gins on offer.
