A welcoming family-run hotel with good food and nicely priced rooms. There’s a small spa in the garden, too, with rather good views from the hot tub. The house dates to 1700 and comes with Japanese oak panelling in the hall, a wood-burner in the sitting room and an open fire in the dining room, where doors open onto the terrace for dinner in summer. Adam cooks lovely rustic fare, perhaps prawns with coconut and coriander, saddle of roe venison, rhubarb and hazelnut crumble; a small, organic kitchen garden provides for the table in summer. Bedrooms – some big, some smaller – have warm colours, crisp linen, good beds and spotless bathrooms. A couple are dog-friendly, those at the back have the view, the suite opens onto a private garden. As for the spa, there’s a treatment room, a sauna and a hot tub, so plenty of scope to recuperate after a day walking the Southern Upland Way or discovering the spectacular country between Moniaive and the Galloway Forest, a lost world of huge beauty you’ll have to yourself. Don’t miss Drumlanrig Castle for its gardens, walking trails and mountain bike tracks.
The relaxed atmosphere and very helpful staff give Trigony House a lovely family feel. It is also a perfect place to explore this very beautiful area. There are very many activities on offer from e.g. dog training, to falconry, to just simply enjoying the spa. The walks nearby are all marked in the Trigony guide and there are many interesting, historical places to visit. It's a thumbs up!
