The Experience

Here’s a peaceful setting in acres of farmland, but still very handy for North Berwick, a ten-minute walk away. Old stone-built steadings have been given a splendid new lease of life – underfloor heating warms sleek oak boards, wood-burners keep you toasty and modern design brings in light. Throughout are funky light fittings, contemporary furniture, and up-to-the-minute kitchens and bathrooms. The Bothy and the Byre are all on one level; the Barn is on two with master bedroom upstairs and a mezzanine snug above the living room. The Bothy’s bedrooms, all en suite, are linked through an unusual glass corridor; in the other cottages, two of the three rooms share a bathroom. Groups can rent more than one cottage and nip through gates between sections of the courtyard, all equipped with barbecues and garden furniture. Golfers will be in paradise with five courses within five miles; for non-golfers, there’s coastal walking, cycling, swimming, bird-watching or riding, and visits to a distillery or Bass Rock seabird sanctuary. A welcome basket from the owners next door includes local craft beers. Fabulous.

We have just returned home after spending a few days in The Byre at Williamstone Farm Steadings in North Berwick. What an amazing place! The standard of accommodation plus the excellent renovation of the old farm steading is outstanding. The overall design, fixtures and fittings being of the highest standard. I am not often making recommendations for anything, however in this case I recommend Williamstone Farm Steadings wholeheartedly. We have stayed in many cottage rentals over the years but this place is simply superb. Full credit to Steph and team, well done and thank you.

Local points of interest from Stephanie Lothian

  • Visit 'The Lobster Shack' down at the quaint harbour - a real gem for delicious fresh seafood (seasonal).
  • You're just a ten minute stroll from some fabulous beaches - or jump in the car and head to Seacliff with its stunning harbour - bring your wet suits and jump off the harbour walls.
  • Try Foxlake for the only over water ropes course in the UK - amazing fun for kids and adults and afterwards try the 'Ringo' , wake boarding or zip lines!
  • Just a 15 minute stroll to the High Street North Berwick has a fantastic selection of independent cafes, restaurant, shops and bars - it wasn't voted best place to live in Scotland by The Sunday Times for no reason!!!
  • Don't be alarmed if you open the blinds in 'The Bothy' and are greeted by our 3 wild (ish) deer - they love the apples in the Orchard!
  • Want to be stunned by a fabulous view of the Bass Rock? Walk up The Law then reward yourself with home made produce at Steampunk café which is always a buzzing place to hang out and people watch ....
