The Experience

This early 19th-century stone farmhouse has been beautifully renovated by Andrew, who is a carpenter, and although he lives nearby with his two friendly dogs you’ll feel quite private – the nearest house is a mile away, on the road to Cawdor village.

A wood-burner in the sitting room adds to the cosy feel, and books and an armchair on the landing make for a quiet space to read. Cooks will love the kitchen, which has everything you’ll need to make proper meals – or even bake a cake – or drive to Boath House Hotel, nine miles away, for gourmet fare. The café in the walled garden is delightful if it’s sunny.

Revel in the quiet and open skies, borrow mountain bikes or walk the surrounding area, where there’s much variety in the landscape – hills, forest, loch, river. Look out for deer, red squirrels, pheasants, partridges and over 80 varieties of birds, head to Nairn or Moray Firth for sandy beaches and picturesque villages. Cairngorm National Park is an hour away.

Reviews

We had a wonderful, relaxing stay at the farmhouse – a true break from the norm. The accommodation was perfect and Andrew was an excellent host who made us feel extremely welcome and took care to ensure all our needs were met. Our dog also enjoyed running around with his, and the freedom of it all. We very much hope to return.

Cose Farmhouse is an extremely well designed and welcoming space. We all appreciated the beautiful bathroom and kitchen as well as the “library” area .... Andrew is a welcoming and knowledgeable host.... The views from all of the windows are a delight to wake-up to. The breeze through the trees, the distant call of grouse or the silent visit of hares and deer all add to the restorative atmosphere. If you feel the need to leave Cose, there are wide, empty beaches and great places to eat and visit... If the weather suits, we recommend a wild swim in the Findhorn river at Dulsie Bridge.

Cose is such a welcoming, cosy and relaxing house. A lovely place to stay for a while and enjoy the peace, the quiet, as well as the sound of the birds and wind in the trees - a perfect antidote to city life. Very near the airport as well (25/30mins). Even though recently refurbished, the house has a completely timeless feel - wonderful!

Cose Farmhouse is such a beautiful place - renovated and furnished to an exceptionally high standard by Andrew. It's certainly the best self catering cottage we've stayed in. Away from the hubbub of normal life - it was a treat to do without WIFI and unwind completely. The farmhouse is very well equipped with everything you could possible want and more in the the most beautiful location. Andrew was the perfect host and even helped us to find a local garage when we thought we had a problem with the car. We were very sorry to leave this idyllic place but we hope to back!

We spent three nights at Andrew's house at the beginning of January. The house is absolutely beautiful inside and out. It is furnished to a very high standard and the kitchen was very well equipped. We loved the log burner in the living room and the bathroom was amazing. Andrew was easy to communicate with and check in and check out was very easy especially as we checked out very early in the morning. The little touches such as the slippers, book shelf, board games and biscuits on arrival made it extra special. I would recommend to anyone and would love to stay again.

Location

The neighbourhood

The house is on the edge of the Dava Moor on Cawdor Estate and has wonderful views of open, rugged landscape, with views across the strath and up in the distance before dropping down to the River Spey, on the other side. Cawdor village, six miles away, has a basic shop and a restaurant, The Cawdor Tavern, but you’ll need to do your main food shopping in Nairn, ten miles away.

Local points of interest from Andrew Floyd

  • There are miles of walks on the Farmhouse doorstep, up onto the moors or into the woods where there is a loch, home to a pair of Ospreys in the summer months. We've counted more than 80 species of bird in and around the property.
  • In the immediate vicinity lies Cawdor Castle and a little farther afield Culloden Battlefield and the ancient stone circles of Clava Cairns. On the coast is the historic barrack town of Fort George, below which is a possible place for dolphin spotting.
  • A short drive takes you to the River Findhorn, the wide water meadows of Drynachan and Daless or the rocky gorges at Dulsie Bridge and Randolph's Leap. Logie Steading nearby, has a cafe, an art shop, a whisky shop and sells its own shorthorn beef.
  • There are miles of white sandy beaches along the south bank of the Moray Firth. Nearest at hand is Nairn, just 8 miles away, stretching East to the Culbin Forest with its miles of cycle tracks, and Findhorn with its resident colony of seals.
  • Farther afield, on the other side of Inverness, is the Black Isle and the pretty towns of Fortrose and Cromarty, with some seriously good restaurants. Between them lies Chanonry Point which is a popular dolphin watching spot
  • South over the moors is the valley of the magnificent River Spey. There are tours to be had at some of the many distilleries on or near the river as well as the dignified town of Grantown-on-Spey, and the buzzy outdoor sports centre of Aviemore.

Introducing

Andrew Floyd

Andrew's reason for moving here was mostly practical. He knew and liked the area for its wild open spaces, and as he wanted to make a living from providing holiday accommodation he converted Cose Farmhouse to let out to guests. As he’s a joiner/carpenter he did most of the renovations himself and has a very good eye for finishing touches.
