Inside this sturdy stone byre all is graceful. Outside the backdrop of hills and trees is dramatic. Come to walk Ben Nevis or fish the lochs

Fort William is two miles away, but sheep are the only passers-by in these parts and the sturdy stone byre's backdrop of hills and trees is dramatic. Where cattle once clustered, now you'll find luxury, seclusion and spotlessness. Step through the studded front door into an open-plan living area, where one room flows gracefully into the other and a beamed ceiling soars above. Here a large leather sofa begs you to curl up in front of a crackling log fire; underfloor heating warms tiled floors and the smart kitchen is set sociably at one end of the space. Wherever you turn, imagination abounds: find an armchair carved from a tree root, dining table chairs of driftwood, deer antlers reborn as table lamps next to a beautifully dressed bed. Joan knows little details matter (a decanter of sherry, fluffy bathrobes, here and there a touch of Scottish tweed or tartan) and is close by at The Grange if you need anything. There are walks galore – Ben Nevis beckons – plus lochs teeming with fish and views that will blow you away. Perfect for honeymooners, hill-walkers, or anyone who dreams of a highland home.

Guest feedback
"We had a fantastic stay at the Old Byre. The cottage itself is beautifully renovated and extremely well equipped. It is perfectly located far enough away from Fort William to feel like a proper get-away and give the visitors a decent morning walk (about 45 minutes to the town centre) but close enough to hop a taxi back up the road at night. A fantastic place to relax and unwind. "
