Georgian country house in Eskbank, not far from Edinburgh - a peaceful escape with five comfortable rooms, gardens and walks along the river

The Experience

This Georgian farmhouse is secluded yet you can walk to restaurants and a pub and it’s only a short drive to Edinburgh. You’ll spot deer, pheasants and squirrels in the surrounding four acres and hear owls softly hooting at night.

You stay in the converted coach house and stables, which are attached to the main house and lead onto a courtyard. Beds are tip-top luxurious, rooms have courtyard and leafy views; wake to a buffet-style breakfast looking out over the river North Esk. Nicola creates a continental feast of freshly baked pastries, fruit salad, Greek yoghurt, pancakes, boiled eggs from home hens, porridge in winter – all set on pretty tables with linen napkins, flowers and candles.

Children can play on trampoline and swings and chat to the chickens; help yourself to berries and fruit in the walled kitchen garden; sit in the summerhouse on balmy evenings.

Had a wonderful stay, so peaceful and tranquil. Hosts were so nice and helpful. Room had everything we needed and the bed was soooo comfy. A lovely 5 minute walk and you reach a lovely restaurant and pub. Very accesible to Edinburgh, we stayed here to attend lets rock scotland which was walking distance to Dalkieth Country Park. Glad we have booked again for this June. Can't wait!!!

Nicola Simmister

Nicola, Ben and young family moved to Glenarch House in 2018 and have been busy ever since! Nicola has lived in the area most of her life; she used to be a management accountant; Ben is a banker. They're well-travelled and spent time running Ben’s family B&B on the Isle of Skye, as well as a ski chalet in the French Alps. They love this beautiful part of Scotand and making your stay special.
