The Experience
Enjoy a picnic in the woodland dell and watch the squirrels scamper. Quarry Gardens Lodge, a serene retreat for two, is the most secret of cottages. It’s also beautifully refurbished.
This eight-acre Walled Garden, with its rare plants and espaliered trees, is open daily to the public. There’s a wooden play area for children, a shop selling estate botanicals and gin, and fine produce grown for the award-winning café, whose ethos is ‘plant – pick – plate.’
Stock up or eat out in neighbouring Fochabers, a half-hour stroll. Head off for the dunes and wildfowl of Findhorn (25 miles), or the distilleries of the Laigh of Moray, where half of Scotland’s glorious whiskies are produced.

The situation in the wood, beside the dell on the Gordon Castle Estate, is special. The cottage is an ideal bolthole for two where you can be totally absorbed in each other in this unique place.

Location
The neighbourhood
This huge estate, next to the small town of Fochabers, is the spiritual home of the House of Gordon, one of Scotland’s oldest families. From February to September guests come for fantastic fishing on the river Spey. The family-friendly Walled Garden, and its café, are another major draw. Set off for the excellent Dolphin Centre at Spey Bay (five miles) where you can spot dolphins, ospreys and seals from the shore.
Local points of interest from Angus & Zara Gordon Lennox
- On the estate is the beautiful Gordon Castle Walled Garden – one of the oldest and largest walled gardens in Britain. It is currently being restored to its former glory and has been designed by Chelsea award-winning garden designer Arne Maynard.
- Also on our doorstep is the WDC Scottish Dolphin Centre in Spey Bay. In the neighbouring city of Elgin there is also Johnstons of Elgin, Elgin Cathedral and several single malt distilleries only a short distance away.
- The Walled Garden Café on the estate is must-visit. It practices a plant, pick, plate ethos serving home-grown produce from our eight-acre garden. Dine at the Station Hotel in Rothes and the Craigellachie Hotel in Craigellachie (book ahead).
- There is a lovely gift shop at our Walled Garden selling our award-winning products from gin to cider, bath and body to souvenirs. If you don’t manage to make it to our shop you can also shop online.
- In the village of Fochabers itself, we have a good local butcher, chemist/paper shop and CO-OP which has a post office. There is also a Veterinary Surgery and the Fochabers Ice Cream Shop.
- Do take a look at the drone footage of Quarry Gardens Lodge over on our website!

Introducing
Angus & Zara Gordon Lennox
Angus and Zara took over Gordon Castle Estate in 2008, continuing the restoration work of its previous owners while embarking on a diversification programme to ensure its success as a visitor attraction. They live on the estate and are happy to chat to visitors when they meet. Everyone who works here is happy, friendly and engaged.
I highly recommend this stunning, tranquil and beautiful cottage. It's location is perfect for a romantic hideaway and for gentle walks around this private estate. I thoroughly recommend that you visit the beautiful walled gardens here and the lovely tea room and shop. Everyone I have spoken with are helpful and friendly .. we loved every minute.
