This 17th-century farmhouse in peaceful, central Scotland has the perfect mix of informality and luxury. Light-filled bedrooms have pretty fabrics, fine antiques, TVs and homemade cake. Roomy bathrooms have robes and a radio; one has a double shower (with a seat if you wish). Fiona (wine buff and talented cook) and Colin (tri-lingual guide) are hospitable and lively hosts. They grow their own organic fruit and vegetables in the walled garden, make their own preserves, bake their own bread – and breakfast is served by the log fire in the dining room, or in the conservatory with far-reaching views to Stirling Castle.
