Jilly and Manjit have created a warm, deeply comfortable space that makes you feel at home as soon as you walk in. The Ghillie is all yours – a retreat for two or bring a couple of friends or family – and you’re free to wander the surrounding three and a half acres of grounds. Settle down with a tray laden with tea and one of Jilly’s delicious cakes – inside or out on a hedged terrace.
Walk down to the main house, which dates from 1720, to have breakfast in the Regency dining room. Start with creamy Aberfeldy whisky porridge, follow with a host of delicious local options including smoked bacon from Selkirk, Juicy Jones sausages, Teviot Smokery salmon, black pudding and haggis from Stornoway… Lighter choices might include berries with yogurt, croissants and pastries, granola or muesli and toast with whisky marmalade.
Come in June for The Borders Book Festival, four days of events for all ages; visit Main Street Trading in St Boswell – a fun combo of bookshop/cafe/deli/lifestyle shop; while back home, the sitting room has all you need for a stormy afternoon or snoozy evening: books, coffee, tea, fruit and homemade shortbread.
