The
Experience

There’s nowhere like the Outer Hebrides, far-flung islands of sublime beauty, with skies that start at your feet and light that changes by the minute. This blissful bolthole sits on the northwest tip of South Uist in 24 acres of seclusion: just sea and sky; wild flowers in the machair; sea otters and wild swans; beaches to comb. If the exterior is a touch dull, then its interior is the polar opposite โ€“ stylish, uncluttered and full of beautiful things; a little like having a suite in a London hotel for a fraction of the price. You get a kitchen/sitting room with a big window to frame the view, a lovely bedroom with rugs on floors, then a chic walk-in shower with robes to pad about in. Back in the main room there’s a wood-burner by the telly, books and maps scattered about, then fridge, dishwasher, hob and oven. Outside, the garden’s at the front with Christine’s remarkable vegetable patch behind. Endless white sands, passing dolphins, the occasional corncrake, that fabulous light… A heavenly escape.

Reviews

This was such a special place to stay. We love the Outer Hebrides and to be on the cliff edge, so close to the sea, with sun streaming in the wonderful bay window was bliss! We left rested and refreshed.

Daniel, London

Perfection: the cottage/amenities, the coastal location, the islands, the RSPB guided walks + sun and blue skies nearly all week. The cottage is warm, spotless, fully equipped and very comfortable, Surrounded by other crofts including our hosts' own with its fruit and veg production, we think Christine/Chris have created something very special here. The Outer Hebrides-specific landscape, flora and fauna, locally sourced food, museums and other cultural and historical reference points enrich the stay. Much to see and do on foot, by bike or car. One of the very best 'Sawday' recommendations.

Simon, Frodsham
