The Experience

The cottage stands slightly separate from its few neighbours in a wide valley, the roads are narrow, and the fields, heathland and soft hills encourage exploration. There’s plenty of space for four, the modern, bright kitchen has everything you need for cooking and a stable door to the outside where sheep munch and red kites swoop overhead. A terrace at the front has lovely views for summer evening barbecues or picnics.

You’ll feel very cosy hunkering down in front of the wood-burner with books and a radio, there are binoculars for bird spotting and two pubs which serve food close by. The hardy will be striding the hills, mountain biking, or ambling round the huge Llyn Brianne reservoir. It’s a glorious slice of countryside.

Stock up in Llandovery, return to stargaze on clear nights (it’s a Dark Sky Area) and very peaceful bedrooms with soft organic bedding.

Reviews

Brynglas is a loved family home and it welcomes you. Outside it nestles in the hills, inside the colours are happily chosen and relaxing. It makes you glad to have arrived.

Location

The neighbourhood

The road from Llandovery, seven miles and the last shops, is wide enough for cars to pass and perfect for cyclist to start exploring the stunning area. The cottage is on the road which follows the Towy valley with very little traffic. Keep going and you'll get to Llyn Brianne reservoir and to the Twm Siôn Cati cave. You can start walking from the house or sit on the lawn and be enveloped by nature.

Local points of interest from Frederieke van Ellen & Eilir Sheryn

  • Brynglas cottage is located in the tranquil valley overlooking the river Towy in the rugged Cambrian Mountains and on the edge of the beautiful Brecon Beacons. You will feel relaxed the moment you arrive as it is such a peaceful and beautiful place.
  • The area is a haven for walkers and hikers, with many walks starting right from our doorstep. RSPB Gwenffrwd-Dinas nearby offers stunning walks, as does Cwm Rhaeadr up the road. Walk around NT Dinefwr castle and parkland, and see if you can spot some deer.
  • There are two wonderful food serving pubs, both at walking distance. The 5 minute walk to the Towy Bridge Inn at night is wonderful in this dark sky area. You can often see stars shooting across the sky. Pop in for a pint after your walk or cycle trip.
  • Carmarthenshire is often called the cycling hub of Wales. The beautiful valleys around Brynglas cottage offer both the road and off-road cyclists plenty of opportunities. There are routes suitable for cyclists of all abilities. The scenery won't disappoint
  • We are lucky to be located in a Dark Sky Area. Llyn Brianne nearby has been awarded Dark Sky Discovery Site status. With wide open skies and uninterrupted vistas in all directions this is a perfect location for Astrophotography and spotting shooting stars.
  • Brynglas cottage is perfectly situated to explore the fabulous counties of Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion, with charming market towns like Hay-on Wye, idyllic coast lines, romantic wilderness and historic monuments, like the nearby Dolaucothi gold mines.

Introducing

Frederieke van Ellen & Eilir Sheryn

Architects Frederieke and Eilir unexpectedly inherited the cottage from great aunt Lil in 2017. When Eilir first visited he found a dark damp old cottage in a wet foggy valley - he was convinced he wouldn’t keep it. However after returning on a sunny day they saw all the potential it had to be turned into a beautiful home. Much hard work later they’re now offering guests a splendid place to stay.
