Snug stone cottage with space for family and friends. Spill over into the nearby hotel for swims, tennis and restaurant dinners

Sit outside in the garden of your renovated stone cottage with a morning coffee, and watch the white sails bobbing about on Cardigan Bay with the Snowdon mountain range beyond. Owners Nick and Louise run the hotel down the road – it’s been in Nick’s family for generations, and you can use the grounds, outdoor heated pool and tennis court. Their cottage is a warm, family holiday home. Find a big, long convivial sitting room with shelves of books, colourful throws on sofas, wood-burner and soaring beams, and inviting bedrooms with space for an extra bed or cot. The kitchen has all you need for rustling up meals for a tribe – though you can also give yourselves a break and book a delicious dinner at the hotel restaurant. Choose to stay in Ty Cwtch (‘Cuddle House’), the cosy shepherd’s hut, if you fancy a starry night in the open. It was locally made and has a heated oak floor and wood stove; breakfast over in the hotel during the season, otherwise a welcome pack is left for you. Take the path to the beach; head out to explore the North Wales coast and mountains – seaside towns Abersoch, Pwllheli and Porthmadog are nearby.

Local points of interest from
Louise Fletcher-Brewer:

  • Bwthyn Bach has a fantastic outlook over Cardigan Bay to Snowdonia beyond and is away from the hustle and bustle of Abersoch yet just two miles or ten minutes drive away.
  • Very close proximity to Porth Tocyn Hotel for some really great food be it light lunches, suppers or fantastic dinners. You can also have use of its facilities including its heated outdoor pool and tennis court.
  • Located right on the stunning New Wales Coastal Footpath. You can now walk for miles and visit loads of hidden special beaches and coves along the way. Pods of dolphins are often spotted off the coast so keep an eye out.
  • Plas yn Rhiw is a lovely National Trust property on the peninsula within 20 minutes drive along the south coast of the peninsula.
  • Plas Glyn y Weddw is a wonderful art gallery in a lovely old mansion with great views about 15 minutes drive away
  • Slightly further field but within half an hour's drive is the Lloyd George museum and Criccieth Castle. Much closer are all the water sports, horse riding and clay pigeon shooting that can be taken advantage of in Abersoch itself.
