The Experience

This family hotel is set in farmland with wake-up views over Cardigan Bay and the Snowdon mountain range. It’s been in Henry’s family for more than 75 years – and the Good Food Guide forever too. He’s passionate about the place and the food, and he and Kelly are consummate hosts. A La Carte menus change daily: fresh fish aplenty, venison, guinea fowl, fruity puddings, Welsh cheeses – served in the dining room in front of a massive picture window for soaking up those views. Bedrooms are cosily inviting; some double rooms adjoin twins, easy for families of four, and cots are available too. Settle in any of the six interconnecting sitting rooms – all relaxed and friendly with heaps of art on the walls, flowers, country antiques, books and comfy cushioned places to read; there’s a small bar and a children’s snug with a games room next door. Spill out onto the front terrace on sunny days; there’s an outdoor heated pool and tennis court and the coastal path runs right past the gardens. A great base for exploring the North Wales coast and mountains – seaside towns Abersoch, Pwllheli and Porthmadog are nearby.

Reviews

A hidden gem and total delight! Porth Tocyn offers comfortable accommodation, delicious food and charming hosts who immediately make you feel at home. The view from the hotel is spectacular and the beach is only a short walk away. It’s also worth noting that all staff were extremely conscientious in following social distancing guidelines and went to great lengths to ensure government advice was followed in the midst of COVID 19. We will, without doubt, be back. Special thanks to Henry and Anne who looked after us so well.
