The Experience

By day you explore the mighty wonders of Snowdonia, by night you return to this lovely small hotel and recover in style. It’s one of those places that delivers just what you want; it’s smart without being posh, the welcome is second to none, the bedrooms are excellent. You’re in the middle of a small country town with a terrace at the front, so sit outside in summer and watch the world pass by. Inside, soft colours and warm lighting create a relaxed feel. There’s a cute bar with armchairs and games, an airy breakfast room for the full Welsh works and bedrooms upstairs fit the bill nicely. Some are bigger than others, but all have the same style: clean lines, cool colours, big beds, beautiful linen. You get the odd stone wall, an armchair if there’s room, then super bathrooms. There’s secure storage for bikes and good restaurants within walking distance.

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Marc Russell & Nick Banda

  • The market town of Dolgellau lies in the southern part of the Snowdonia National Park. It's medieval street pattern, its uniformity of stone and slate and the fact that it has the most listed buildings of any Welsh town make Dolgellau a very special town.
  • Our restaurant was once the old County Jail, built around sometime around 1450 and open until 1815 after a visit from John Howard the prison reformer who described it as 'unfit even for vermin'. The food is much better nowadays of course.
  • Y Meirionnydd is the perfect base for the great Welsh outdoors. Mountain bikers can head off to Coed y Brenin 8 miles away, Cadair Idris is virtually in our back garden (hence our room 'Cadair') and for the sea it's just 9 miles away along the Mawddach.
  • The Mawddach trail featured on Julia Bradbury's 'Railway Walks', a 9 mile walk from Dolgellau to Barmouth. A truly stunning walk along the Mawddach estuary, we can even provide you with a packed lunch, map & rug if needed with our Great Outdoors package.
  • The start of the Mawddach Trail is about four minutes away and you can hire a bike from our friends at Dolgellau Cycles for either half or a full day. You can cycle all the way or as far as The George pub just two miles away if fatigue sets in...
  • Dolgellau is an all year round destination and has four real distinct seasons, each one unique. Even in the busiest bank holidays there's so much space and peace for everyone.
