The Experience

Wind through quiet lanes with bucolic views to arrive in the tiny village and this beautifully converted coach house. The open-plan living space is light, bright and warm with pretty vases of flowers from the kitchen garden and plenty of interesting books to read – it’s a lovely space from which to plan your next outing or snuggle down in when the weather isn’t playing.

Cooks will be happy in the kitchen with all the basics for cooking plus a hugely bountiful hamper of fresh organic produce for breakfasts, artisan bread, butter and milk (with vegan alternatives) and even a juicing machine. If you give Olivia a bit of notice she’ll even stock the fridge up for you.

Walks or cycles from the door are along quiet, leafy lanes with high hedges and wild woods with plenty of bird life to spot. Tougher hikes can be had in the Black Mountains just 20 minutes away. Ask Olivia about tailor-made individual or group yoga or mindfulness lessons – your open-plan space doubles as a studio.

Perfect place to rest, relax and treat your soul - I'd love to arrange a yoga class or try forest bathing. The breakfast hamper sounds delicious - the perfect way to start a spoiling day. Olivia and John are thoughtful hosts; they can help organise your trip so you can unwind as much as possible.

The neighbourhood

On the beautiful Welsh border, the little village lies midway between Monmouth and Raglan. Abergavenny (15-minutes) has a famous food festival in September and the Hay literary festival is in late spring. Monmouthshire bristles with historic castles and lush gardens - there is also ample opportunity for swimming, kayaking and paddle boarding on the Wye.

Local points of interest from Olivia Clarke

  • In a world of busyness, The Coach House Retreat offers an opportunity to slow down and have some valuable, restorative, wellbeing time.
  • The Coach House Retreat is situated between The Black Mountains National Park and The Wye Valley - an outdoor paradise for those who love walking, cycling, wild swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding and horse riding.
  • Monmouthshire is an incredibly friendly border county, with a great mix of people. It has more castles than any county in the whole of the UK. Raglan Castle is a five minute drive from The Coach House Retreat.
  • The annual Abergavenny Food Festival attracts food lovers from all around the country. The dates for this coming Festival are 21st-22nd September.
  • Olivia is a garden lover and passionate walker. She can point you in the direction of some of her favourite gardens and local walks. She can also book a professional mountain guide if you would like one.
  • Trail Riding is available in the Wye Valley and Olivia can recommend a great local riding teacher if you want to include riding lessons as part of your holiday.

Olivia Clarke

Olivia, who has lived in Wales her whole life, is a natural people-lover who also teaches yoga and mindfulness. She knows this area like the back of her hand and can advise on great places to eat too. She and her husband John – ex-photographer and director – live in the vicarage opposite and are always on hand if you need them. They love helping visitors make the most of their stay in this special county.
