A garden retreat amid the buzzing shops and restaurants of the UK's tiniest city; a super spot for a coastal holiday with family or friends

Read guest comments

From these neat white cottages in the heart of St David's you can see the cathedral, fields and coast. All is peace and quiet, even the communal south-facing garden with its colourful beds and shady picnic spots. Bwythyn Gwe is a sunny space for couples, with an open-plan living room, lovely bedroom, pristine bathroom plus a Rayburn and a Clearview wood burning stove for cosy nights in. Families take Ty Gwilym, a converted farmhouse with a downstairs shower/cloakroom (handy for de-sanding after the beach) and a big kitchen with a pine table for cooking, eating and games. In the sitting room, comfy blue sofas and chairs gather around the original fireplace (now gas); there's a study upstairs with cathedral views. Bedrooms are pristine with a nod to French chic. Showers are sparkling new. Friendly caretaker Dawn has local tips, from boat trips to bike hire, castles to caves. If the peace becomes too much, you're a minute's walk from shops and restaurants, ten from the Pembrokeshire Coast Path and a short drive from the Blue Flag beach at Whitesands. Off-street parking, too, which is rare in Britain's smallest city.

  • Whitesands Bay is a wonderful sandy beach within five minutes drive and is great for surfing and sandcastles
  • St David’s Cathedral is the focal point of the city and must be visited
  • Great places to eat (for example Cwtch and the Sound Cafe) are plentiful in St David’s and the surrounding area
  • Abereiddi and the Blue Lagoon create a unique atmosphere
  • A trip around Ramsey Island cannot be missed, to see the seals and, hopefully, dolphins!
  • Pothgain is a unique, beautiful harbour with a really good restaurant (The Shed) and pub (The Sloop)

"Charming cottage for 2, but spacious. Beautifully appointed and comfortable. The garden is an amazing space with views right to Whitesands and the cathedral next door! Our daughter rented Ty Gwilym with her family and loved that too. This cottage is right in the centre of St Davids where there is lots to do and see. There are wonderful walks and for our family the beach and surf were amazing. This is our 'Happy Place' come and see for yourself!"

"We had a fantastic week at Bwthyn Gwe! The cottage was warm & wecoming, stylish but cosy. Dawn was on hand to give us the low down on working the Aga ( we want one at home now!) Everything you could wish for and MORE , perfect setting, ideal location, beautiful City. We'll definitely be booking a return trip so that we can walk more of the Coastal Path. "
