The
Experience

With a lawn sloping down to a Wendy house (child heaven) and green fields to the sides is a gabled villa with a grand porch and bay windows, built in 1840 for the estate manager. Today’s friendly owners live in the servants’ quarters, entrusting the rest to guests. Downstairs is a sun-filled sitting room, a smart kitchen-diner, and a dramatic tiled hall that runs from front to back with heaps of space for walking sticks and wellies (Offa’s Dyke and the Shropshire Way await!). Upstairs: a bathroom half way up and smart bedrooms above (two en suite). Comfy sofas gather round an open fire and logs are on the house, the kitchen has lovely waxed floors and an American style fridge, the beds and the bedding are fresh and bright, and the views are Shropshire’s sweetest.  Jemma leaves you homemade granola, bread and compote for first breakfast, and will deliver delicious meals if you’d like them. Visit castles at Ludlow, Hopton and Clun, shop and eat in Knighton, jump on the Heart of Wales line: Bucknell – with its request stop – is just behind.

Local points of interest from Jemma Willis

  • Just below the house is the river with endless areas to explore, walk, picnic, BBQ or camp beside. Let us set you up a fire pit and BBQ, whilst you fish the waters or practice your Kayak skills or take a dip!?
  • Beside the house is a rustic and charming barn, available for hire for dinners and private dinning. Or private outdoor cinema hire, with hay bails, hot water bottle and blankets for a great way to enjoy an evening.
  • Locally there are several places to eat out. 10mins to Leintwardine: The Sun Inn & The Lion pubs. 12mins to a fabulous fish restaurant: The Jolly Frog. 15mins to an incredible Moroccan Restaurant and 20mins to the award winning Stag in Titley.
  • As well as endless walking, all the trails are accessible to horses, mountain bikes and runners. So there is plenty to do here.
  • Ludlow, the shops, the castle, the river, the markets, the food hall and the race course, all can be found 20min drive from the house. Local butchers and organic veg shops deliver to your doorstep.
  • Visit the Space Observatory (5mins from the house) and one of country’s leading experts will explain the structure of the solar system, why we have a problem and how we can solve it. The Centre is positioned here due to our remote location and dark skies.
