The
Experience

On the side of a hill, looking down the valley, this 19th-century farmhouse is surrounded by forests and wildflower meadows. Rural and indulging all at once, it is a place for de-stressing, with deeply comforting bedrooms, subtle and spicy colours, and the whole house filled with the smell of baking in the morning. The large sitting room has an open fireplace, an honesty bar and hundreds of books; step onto the patio and enjoy the heart-lifting views. A warm, polyglot couple, Margaret and Philippe will help you plan days of discovery. There are a great selection of restaurants less than 15 minutes away by car.

Reviews

We saved the best till last and wished we'd stayed longer than one night have booked up for next year already A truly superb place with every comfort. Margaret and Philippe are wonderful hosts 10 out of 10

John

A wonderful place to stay. We had a very warm welcome. and the bedroom was of a high standard with a large and well equiped on suite bathroom. The views from the house were stunning. The breakfast choice was extensive & wonderful & our hosts gave great advice on what to see & were to eat. Highly recommended.

From the get go, Margaret and Philippe (the owners) were a complete delight. Nothing was too much trouble. The rooms were immaculate and spacious. The linen was fabulous. No stone was left unturned. The setting was picture-book pretty and the local town of Kaysersberg a revelation (especially La Vieille Forge restaurant). Sadly we could only spend one night here. We will be back - in bucket loads! The fact that there are 2 sitting rooms for guests with open fires is most unusual in a B&B and the breakfast... wow... so delicious. I cannot recommend this place highly enough.

We stayed two nights with Margaret and Phillipe and only regret that we had not the time to stay longer. The accommodations - our room and all the common areas - were splendid, the hosts were wonderful. They were extremely helpful in suggesting great places to dine and visit in the nearby area. It was a totally beautiful experience. We have since recommeded La Haute Grange to all our friends who are likely to travel to France.

Giles

We loved La Haute Grange. We enjoyed our 4 night stay for both the lovely accommodation and beautiful setting and for the solicitous attention of Margaret and Phillippe who were so kind and helpful to us, booking reservations for us and giving us exploring tips etc. It was an idyllic finale to our holiday in Europe. A wonderful spot to use as home base for exploring the wine route or for a relaxing respite. Loved It !!!.

We stayed for four nights and everything about La Haute Grange surpassed our expectations. The location is perfect for it is in the centre of lovely Alsace with many many things to do. The best part of staying is the wonderful Margaret and Philippe, who really went out of their way to welcome us and ensure we had a great time. They gave us fantastic recommendations for restaurants and day trips and were kind enough to book tables for us. Philippe showed us a good walk route around the lac noir and lac blanc in the Vosges mountains which was a very special day. We really did not want to leave.

Alistair

La Haute Grange is certainly a special place to stay in every respect. It more than exceeded our expectations. Everything is of the highest quality and Margaret and Phillipe clearly value attention to detail and looking after their guests. The breakfasts were lovely and we slept so well in the comfortable bed with the mountain air coming through the open window. The location, away from yet within an easy drive of the wine route towns was just right and we appreciated the quiet and calm.

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Margaret & Philippe Kalk

  • We are ideally located for the Alsace Wine Route. We have a nice restaurant in the village or in Kaysersberg a short 10 minute drive away. Riquewihr, Colmar are also very close and if you like to walk there are lots of great paths and 'ferme-auberges'
  • Fly into Bale airport - we are just an hour's drive from there We're also an ideal stopping off spot if you are driving down to Italy. Our garden is the perfect place to relax and enjoy a glass of wine and the amazing views.
  • Our gourmet breakfasts include home-made mueslis, breads and cakes. Our orange brioche-and-butter pudding has become very popular ! Breakfast is served in the spacious kitchen at individual tables.
  • . Would you like to improve your spoken French ? Margaret offers individual or group lessons . She & Philippe also host French "dinner party" evenings where you can practise your french over a gourmet dinner - and do a spot of wine tasting too !
  • Margaret is Scottish so she'll be able to advise you in English on all aspects of your stay from travel plans to where to eat, what to do and see etc.We also speak German, Spanish and Italian
  • The highlights of the Alsace region are right on our doorstep - Riquewihr, Colmar and we're less than an hour from the Black Forest . We can book wine-tasting with our favourite wine-growers .
