The
Experience

You could sit under the trees with Alexandra and chat all day: she is the calmest and the loveliest of hosts. She and her soon-to-retire husband live in a handsome hunting lodge built by a Bordeaux wine producer, sharing the central courtyard with two large, luminous, ground-floor suites with private entrances, a fridge and impeccable décor. If the ‘parc’ is a joy – all hidden corners, luxurious pool, shaded lawns meandering down to the river – breakfast is a marvel. There are seasonal fruits and homemade everything: croque monsieur, clafoutis, brioches and wild plum jam, all beautifully presented in the long library, or outside in summer.

Reviews

The park is great, the pool is beautiful and large, the accommodation is "heavenly": imagine a large bedroom, adjacent to an even larger sitting room cum TV, and an enormous bathroom. There are two such apartments, and and the walls are lined by books! Alexandra is the perfect hostess: helpful and sympathetic when needed, and withdrawn in the background when necessary! Great start (for us) of our vacation.

A beautuful house and grounds and the building we stayed in was lovely. Alexandra put an extra bed in to accommodate our son. The pool is so clean and set in lovely grounds with pool beds. The breakfast is amazing with breads and tasty home made jams. A feast every morning. There are no self catering facilities so you must eat out every day. A place to rest and relax.

The hosts Sandra and Patrick were exceptionally welcoming and provided delicious homemade breakfasts. They also offered great tips on local hidden gems, much appreciated as it was my first visit to the area. It's a perfect location to explore the region, with Libourne, Saint Emilion and Bergerac all nearby, plus a direct train to Bordeaux. The property is very tranquil and spacious. It includes a pool, outdoor seating areas to enjoy a nice glass of local wine, and expansive grounds that end at the river Isle. I look forward to coming back to explore the region some more and staying here again!

Scott, Brussels

A stunning property in the classical French style that’s homely and with a contemporary touch. Spacious rooms and expansive gardens with mature trees. The hosts, Sandra and Patrick were wonderful hosts with a great sense of humour. Loved the breakfast with everything homemade - yoghurts, brioche, and blackcurrant/violet jam (one of 12 different types!). Enjoyed many hours sitting out and relaxing in the calm.

Local points of interest from Alexandra Hudson

  • For wine lovers, we are located between Saint Emilion and Bergerac, many wine producing chateaux offer tours and wine tasting. Local restaurants offer the best gastronomy for very soft prices
  • Enjoy the very many local markets! Perigord is renowned for its food markets, but also flea markets. In the summertime evening markets offer also dining facilities with the locals en musique
