Domaine la Fagette

Castels, Dordogne
Bed & Breakfast

Relaxed and comfortable farmhouse B&B with generous hosts, hearty food and the Dordogne’s best attractions within half an hour’s drive

4 rooms

Rooms sleep 2 – 4

This restored 17th-century stone farmhouse is one of only three in a small hamlet hidden in a hilly woodland of truffle oaks but is only five minutes to the nearest village.

Christophe puts creative energy into everything he does, including breakfasts of homemade bread, jams using fruit from the orchard and a different cake every day. Stay in for hearty dinners featuring classic Périgord fare five nights a week – cassoulet, confit de canard, truffles – all seasonal and sourced within a 10km radius of the house, and served in the dining room or on the terrace.

Spend lazy afternoons at the swimming pool overlooking the valley and forest beyond – you may spot a roe deer – while you help yourself to drinks from the honesty bar. Walks leave from the house, or there are plenty of charming villages, gardens and chateaux to explore.

This warm and generous place I would be happy to stay at. I felt very welcome and inspired to return to stay and plan some long walks through the forest and visit some of the local sites on foot -having made the most of their generous breakfasts and in anticipation of the huge evening meal upon my return!

Nicky, Sawday's inspector

The property is off the beaten track and extremely peaceful and quiet. Our room was well appointed and very comfortable, and our hosts incredibly kind and helpful. The home cooked evening meal on the terrace and the freshly baked bread and croissants at breakfast were fabulous.

Christophe & Magaly Breuil

Magaly and Christophe live nearby with their cat, two friendly Border collies and several donkeys. They previously lived in Cholet, four hours north, but decided to change their lives and bought and completely restored the farmhouse. They love their new life and their adopted home deep in the forest.
