Rooms sleep 2 – 3

In a bucolic valley in the Périgord Vert, a stately B&B bordering village and fields. Built in the 18th-century, the beautiful house sits in immaculate lawns shaded by lime trees; the silence is blissful. Delightful Caroline and Dominique have expertly converted an annexe to create three elegant, spacious rooms. Finely-dressed beds, antiques and contemporary bathrooms add charm and comfort. Terracotta-floored Agapanthe opens onto the garden, while Escallonia has extra space for a child or two. Breakfast on brioche and home-made jam in the soothing dining room, take a dip in the pool, or hire kayaks to paddle down the Dronne.

This was a wonderful place to stay on our route north back to the UK. A lovely old and very elegant house, simply but very tastefully decorated and hosted by the very charming and friendly husband and wife team of Caroline and Dominque. We relaxed by the pool and enjoyed the quiet countryside around. Our room (Agapanthe) was perfect with a large bathroom and french doors to the terrace and gardens beyond. Highly recommended.

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Caroline de Mercey

  • In the village of Grand Brassac, the fortified Romanesque church with file of cupolas, architectural peculiarity typical of the area of nearby Ribérac.
  • Protected natural areas nearby, along the Dronne Valley and on the surrounding hills (orchids).
